The basketball court. The smell of hot asphalt. Dust hanging in the air. A samba rhythm driven by a bouncing ball — sometimes low to the ground, sometimes soaring above heads. On the bench, local hip-hop heads nod to the Brazilian beat, but today, this isn’t their game.

Third single from the upcoming debut is a story of scraped knees, jammed fingers, and twisted ankles – a soundtrack dedicated to the street legends of concrete courts.

Even before releasing any studio material, Omasta had already won over audiences across Europe with their powerful live performances. “Ankle Breaker” is the next glimpse into their upcoming album, Jazz Report from the Hood, set for release in autumn 2025 via Astigmatic Records.

RNT introduces Motel Phantasma, a new project from seasoned producers Stefano Ritteri and Musta, with their incendiary Claptrap EP. A tasty double A-side 7”, this pair of tracks establishes the MP sound as both club-tough and musically weighty. 

The title track is a peaktime weapon of epic proportions, oozing slippery electronic percussion, razory synth work, and in-your-face vocal incantations delivered in Portuguese. 

The flip side is a bouncey Afro-boogie number, a bit more organic in approach, and with a relentlessly catchy hook by featured singer Kaleta. With a gorgeous full color jacket to match the music’s punch, this one is an absolute late-summer essential.

A Milan-born multi-instrumentalist of Venetian heritage, Alberto Baldan Bembo was a gifted vibraphonist, organist, pianist, arranger, and composer whose work bridged jazz, pop, and film music. By the early 1960s, he was performing with Italy’s leading ensembles, including I Menestrelli del Jazz and Bruno De Filippi’s group, and soon became an in-demand session musician. For several years, he toured with the legendary Mina, providing the piano and organ backbone to her live shows—a role that sharpened the cinematic sensibility and refined musicianship that would later define his soundtrack work. In the years to come, he would be celebrated for his scores to films such as L’Amica Di Mia Madre (1975) and Lingua Argento (1976), earning a place alongside Piero Umiliani, Alessandro Alessandroni, Berto Pisano, and other luminaries of Italy’s golden age of soundtrack and library music.

Io E Mara is the soundtrack to a film that was never made. Originally released on the CGD label in 1969, this debut album from the brilliant Maestro Baldan Bembo is a sophisticated concept-album tracing 24 hours in the life of two young lovers. Told entirely through music, the record unfolds as a continuous suite of ten tracks, where cinematic lounge, bossa, and jazz flavors mingle to create a dreamlike atmosphere. Baldan Bembo’s signature piano and organ are masterfully complemented by Mara’s ethereal vocals, while immersive soundscapes of crashing waves, seagulls, and rain showers enhance the feeling of a deeply personal and intimate journey.

A cast of exceptional musicians brings this vision to life, including Bruno De Filippi on electric guitar and sitar, Carlo Milano on electric bass, Rolando Ceragioli on drums, and Pasquale Liguori on sound effects. This singular work not only showcases the burgeoning talent of a future soundtrack master but also features the original pop art front cover by Italian cult illustrator Guido Crepax.

The Oriental Brothers International Band of Nigeria is a popular Igbo highlife boy band from Nigeria [based in Owerri] for several decades, known for their powerful lyrics (whether it be of proverbs, or specials being dedicated to special people in the country of Nigeria), and deft instrumental work (whether of the lead guitar, or the conga man's professional play of the congas in their break sections of songs) with their unique style of highlife. The Original Oriental Brothers International consisted of five members; Godwin "Kabaka" Opara [leader of the band, and rhythm guitarist], Chief Christogonus "Dr. Sir Warrior" Ezewuiro Obinna [vocalist, also know asUltimate Dr. Sir Warrior from 1993-'96], Ferdinand "DanSatch" Chukwuemeka Opara [Founder, lead guitarist, bass player till 1976 when self-titled album, featuring song "Murtala Mohammed," released], Livinus Akwịla (spelt "Aquila" in English) Alaribe [conga player and maraca player], and finally, Fred "Ichita" Ahumaraeze [drummer]. Later members came at the time of the band being, such as Charles Boumda, Aloysius (Aloy) Anyanwu, and Tony Awoma [who was apart of the band with Satch in the beginning before the band formed, but left because he could not stay in one place].

SCORE - DREAM SEQUENCE

An understated and moody slice of 2-step, “Remember” features an airy but commanding vocal performance from Vicky Farewell. Her lyrics imply a lost lover, but it’s unclear whether the conversation she’s having is real, or imagined. The weightless half-step production lends a dubwise flavour, referencing elements of British “Lovers Rock” reggae with all its requisite nostalgia and romantic complications.
