My salute to Cleveland's Favorite Son who left us March 5th, 2021. This is the first track recorded for my upcoming Tribute Album to Michael Stanley, "Yours For a Song". As this is a tribute to him I felt it was important to start with the first song on the the first side of his first album (recorded back in 1973). As today (March 25) would have been Michael's 73rd Birthday I wanted to get this out to everyone in Celebration of his Music, his memory and all of his contributions to the City of Cleveland.

Michael is a huge influence to me as both a musician and a songwriter and I hope you enjoy this track as much as I did recording it! Thanks for listening!!

Every musician has an influence. Some have more than one and, in the case of yours truly, I have four. Back in 1983, seeing Kiss in concert for the first time, inspired me to pick up a guitar. Sometime after that, Prince inspired me to become more than just a guitarist and become a musician. Around that same time, Todd Rundgren inspired me to think “outside the box” and approach music with a “no limits” attitude. When I was younger I wanted to be a “Rock Star” and live the life that all aspiring Rock Stars dream of. As I got older I realized that this dream just wasn’t going to happen. Enter influence & inspiration #4….

	I was too young to see The Michael Stanley Band at the Agora, the Richfield Coliseum or Blossom. The only time I had ever seen them was a free concert in the Mall C parking lot and, as I was in 7th grade at the time, it really didn’t sink in. Many years later I started to really get into MSB, got my hands on all the albums and started to absorb all of this wonderful music. When Michael started releasing solo albums again I’d pick them up and absorb all this music as well. It was then it hit me: here is a master storyteller that had a way with words and he told his stories in darn good songs. He never tried to be something he wasn’t and was always honest in what he said and did. It all came from the heart and was always comfortable either strapping on the acoustic and playing it mellow or testing the boundaries of his amplifiers’ manhood by cranking it up and letting it rock!

	This is what I took away from Michael’s music and applied it to my approach when it came to music. Whether it be writing it or playing it: be who you are and let it all come from the heart. There’s a time to be serious and a time to have fun but, again, let it all come from the heart.

	I had no desire to do record my own version of The Michael Stanley Band’s Greatest Hits. There’s some songs on here that the casual listener will recognize while there’s some songs on here that only the true diehard fans will recognize. I chose songs that spanned his entire career as I am a fan of his entire career. If anything on here encourages you to seek out the original and turns you onto something you never heard before then I can claim “Mission Accomplished”. Hopefully you’ll have the same thrill in discovering his music just as I had all those years ago.

	Teaching myself these songs and recording them was truly a labour of love and I’ve cherished every moment of the process. These are NOT note-for-note recreations, some of the performances are a little loose, some are a little sloppy in spots, while some are my re-interpretations of songs you know and love. Some of it is serious and some of it is fun but, above all else, it ALL comes from the heart. 

	I hope you enjoy listening to this as much as I did recording it. This project was an experience that I’ll cherish for a lifetime. Thank you for taking the time to give this a spin. So, until next time...

The single most fun I've ever had as a musician!! 

What initially started as just one song ("I Could Never Take The Place...") to celebrate the memory of Prince on the 4th Anniversary of his passing eventually turned into a 5-song EP. Besides, being locked down in quarantine, I couldn't think of a better way to use some time.

Recorded with my beloved Rose and my partner in crime, Jesus Calabash, this EP has the vibe of a living room jam: a little loose, a little sloppy in some parts but a whole lot of fun!! Hopefully you'll have as much fun listening to this as we did recording it! We had a ball recording this and hopefully that will come across in what you hear.
