„Sonnenfinsternis“ ist der Nachfolger zum ähnlich aufgebauten Song „Mondfinsternis“, welcher Kollegah 2011 zum ersten Mal große mediale Präsenz ermöglichte.
Das Markenzeichen des Tracks war es, dass Kollegah den ganzen Song über in Doubletime rappte, also in doppelter Geschwindigkeit des Beats. Auf Sonnenfinsternis tut er dies fünf Jahre später wieder.
So ist auch die Bridge an die Hook von Mondfinsternis angelehnt.
