After presenting a wonderful release by the two Indians, we are more than happy to see Kohra & Midnight Traffic return to Charybdis with an exclusive mix for the next episode of our very own podcast series.

Coming from the utterly vibrant cities of Goa and Hyderabad, they have been shaping their musical minds under different soundscapes such as Deep and Progressive Techno, Ambient or Breaks to reach an understanding and quality, which is clearly outstanding. No surprise that they are also busy working together as part of Qilla Records, the infamous imprint which keeps exploring and representing underground electronic music in their home country and beyond for over 10 years now. 

The one-hour sonic journey will get you visiting places deep beyond the surface, formed by hypnotic spheres, voluminous bass sections and even some broken beats.

Vardae is a project with the ambition of breaking away from the genre barrier, to explore new sounds territory around the love of psychedelic music. His productions and performances result in a percussive and hypnotic sound, a combination of tribal rhythms, repetitive leads and atmospheric textures which navigates from dub to tribe, passing through techno and drum’n’bass. Vardae defends a universe where immersion and experience prevail over codes with the idea of offering a journey to each of its appearances.

We are excited to kick off a new format with this beautiful first live set by the Armenian artist @innersha. She crafted an organic and deep but fast and groovy session. 
Our SoundSculptors series will introduce you to live sets of artists who we work with. As our label is very much focused on profound sound design we feel that it is high time to share such journeys with you as live sets are something very unique. With it we feature small interviews about the live sets with the artists, so that you get to know them and their concepts as well as techniques a bit better. Innersha is an electronic music producer and live performer based in Yerevan, Armenia. 
With a background in visual arts, communicating emotions and stories through media has always been a crucial part of her life. Her passion for crafting sound palettes using analog and modular synths, led to the development of diverse moods and storylines, transmitted through dynamic live sets. 
Her sound revolves around IDM and deep techno grooves, filled with organic sounds, rhythmic noises, and trance-inducing hypnotic basslines. 
As an initiator in the local raving scene and a co-founder of the dk.tsk collective, her artistic development was significantly shaped by the communal music experience.

Emerging as Phase Fatale in 2014, Berlin-based DJ, producer and label owner, Hayden Payne is rewriting the discourse of Techno with his cross-pollination of gnarly basslines, sensual narratives and mind-control mechanics. Demonstrating his vision through an authentic, highly curated sonic-lens of techno, Payne’s rhythmic excursions draw on both his roots in the New York and Berlin underground as well as his reputable experience performing to dancefloors globally. Exemplified by long-standing tenures as a resident for esteemed institutions such as Berghain as well as KHIDI in Georgia's capital Tbilisi, Payne demonstrates a resolute understanding of harnessing club synergy across his productions and DJ sets. 

With three full length albums under his belt, including the 2020 sophomore release ‘Scanning Backwards’ on Berghain’s Ostgut Ton, Payne’s sonic signature pushes the boundaries of techno sensibilities and reflects the zeitgeist whilst staying true to his own vision. Wasting no time since his solo project’s inception to showcase his expert sonic ability, Payne has toured globally performing at renowned clubs and festivals worldwide, releasing numerous records on labels including Jealous God, Ostgut Ton, and his own label BITE. 

Payne co-launched the BITE imprint in 2018 as a means to platform cutting-edge sound production across a diverse roster of international artists. Along with fellow Soft Crash protagonist Pablo Bozzi pioneering ‘Italo Body Music’, BITE’s seminal synthesis of curated techno solidifies the label as a tour de force taste-maker within electronic music with showcases worldwide including Berghain and their 5 year anniversary compilation ‘Shedding Skin’ in 2023. 

Hailing from post-punk roots, Payne draws on his depth of musical knowledge and multitude of influences. His merging of nuanced references and high concept narratives remain geared towards the dancefloor at its core, subtleties of his multifarious sonic palette act as the foundations for his layered wall of sound.

Giulia Fournier-Mercadante (GiGi FM) is a multi-disciplinary artist, DJ, resident of NTS Radio, dancer and music producer. Boldly versatile, GiGi FM’s selections have charmed bodies on dancefloors all across the world, such as Berghain, Rural Japan, Draaimolen, Fabric, De School, Primavera, The Bunker New York, and Sustain Release. In the booth her genre-defying spirit is in full effect with techno, bass, breaks and ambient all coming in to play.

Deeply influenced by astrology, philosophy and the cosmos; for GiGi, music is both a tool for expression and introspection. As a multi- hyphenate artist, she continues on her quest to push artistic boundaries and hold space for unique audience experiences. Whatever medium she may adopt, the result is a rich embodiment of the interconnectedness of sound, colour, movement and metaphysics.

Here are GiGi’s words about the mix :
