Keith O’Brien is not your typical R&B artist. This crooner draws inspiration from music around the world. “I want my music to reflect my travels and inspirations. Fall time in Toronto, hanging out on Yonge St. inspired me to write one of my favorite songs. The energy I feel every time I visit L.A. is crazy.  I want to capture the feeling of being on Hollywood and Highland on a Thursday night.  Things like this give me my desire to create.” Keith O’Brien has a true love for music and uses his eclectic taste to create a genre-blending delight for the ears. From Oscar D’Leon to Fela Kuti, from The Stylistics to Antonio Carlos Jobim, from Steely Dan to Drake, Keith is well versed in his musical sources.  “I remember the first time I heard “Voodoo” By D’Angelo. I was on a plane, at night, looking out at the clouds, listening to Africa. I never heard something that took me to another place. I was not on the plane, I was in another world where the only thing that mattered was this sound. That experience changed my whole view on music. Music is an experience and I knew at that moment I wanted to be a part of that. Music connects people from different cultures, different languages, and creates something that people, universally, can experience together.” Keith O’Brien definitely creates that “universal experience” with his buttery smooth vocals and infectious beats. He creates a place where everyone can get lost in the music, lost in the melody, lost in the story of love and life. His musical aptitude developed at a young age, “Music was always there, it was like a member of our family. My father was a DJ so the house was always immersed in music. My love for salsa and reggae was cultivated living in Panama. I remember how excited I was when Boys II Men shot a video near where I lived in New Mexico. I never realized how these things affected me until I found out I could create what I always heard.”   Keith O’Brien is a singer/songwriter first, but has an uncanny ability to produce a unique sound that is universally accepted. With his first project “Rough Cuts”, Keith O’Brien aims to catch listeners from different ages and cultures. “This was a small project, but I just wanted to create something that everyone would like. I wanted to draw from the old and the new to make something you can dance and chill out to.” With a sound this clean and refreshing, it may just serve as a breath of fresh air to an oversaturated music market. Listeners should stay tuned because this music man is only beginning his journey to create something for everyone, that “universal experience”.
