Over on the flip, Madrid’s finest has given Evelyn ‘Champagne’ King’s 1982 classic ‘Love Come Down’ a modern rework, plus completing the package Ruben &amp; Ra have added their version.

A new week brings another re-edit ruckus from the prolific but consistent Midnight Riot crew. The rock solid four-tracker sees the return of label regulars Shit Hot Soundsystem, who last graced Yam Who's imprint two years ago. They predictably hit the ground running with "Funky Situation", a rolling, gently quantized, percussion-rich peak-time stomper full of jammed-out electric piano solos and low-end funk grunt. They do their best Tiger & Woods impression on "Falling in Love", a loopy and rubbery cut-up of a well known New York boogie staple, before slowing the tempo for the loved-up, blue-eyed soul swirl of "Never Gonna Let You". Harmonica-laden funk-soul slow jam "Irresistible" draws a fine EP to a close in pleasingly dubbed-out style.

Serial re-edit fiend Rayko enjoyed a busy 2012, releasing countless well-regarded EPs of floor-friendly electrofunk and disco rubs. Here he kicks off 2013 with a first solo outing on Chopshop. Like previous outings, it provides a quartet of synth heavy re-dubs and the odd peaktime re-cut (see the mostly instrumental take on The Whispers' "And The Beat Goes On"). Opener "Shake Your Body" is probably the standout, building a formidable electrofunk groove around thickset synths and heavy low-end. "Put The Freez On" ups the tempo and laces chunks of vocal over a particularly sweet and soul-flecked synth groove, while "Superman" rolls along on a Roger Troutman flex - all heavy P-funk synths and fancy talkbox vocals.
