BBC Radio 1Xtra gets new sound from ReelWorld

MediaCityUK based ReelWorld have been responsible for re-imaging the sound of BBC Radio 1Xtra after successfully winning the opportunity earlier this year.

The new imaging launched this week and the creative is a joint venture between radio jingle and audio branding company ReelWorld and long term collaborator Ben Marks of Substance B Media. The imaging package delivers a unique and authentic sound for the station which fuses the station's music policy with VO and vocals from Urban talent. ReelWorld composed original themes covering various 1Xtra musical genres as the foundation of the package.

The end result is exciting, authentic, energetic and above all extremely musical. 

Ben Marks is Creative Director at Substance B Media: "Such a unique station deserves a completely unique approach to imaging and I've literally been in fanboy heaven. Working with ReelWorld's composers on the music and sound design, writing lyrics with Ragga MC's, vocal sessions with Grime artists, talk about having your cake and eating it. I've been gorging on gateaux since we began this project!"

BBC Radio 1Xtra reaches over 1 million listeners every week and the playlist includes an eclectic mix of Urban music including hip hop, R'n'B, grime, drum and bass and Afrobeat.

This demo features the Top Of Hour themes - an extensive selection of mixouts and presenter IDs were delivered alongside the hour openers. 

Last year ReelWorld were responsible for a new jingle package for Heart, the UK's most successful commercial radio brand, and earlier in 2015 launched the new sound of Belgium's number one radio station, Radio 2.

In September 2017, BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 2 celebrated 50 years since they launched. Central to the celebrations was BBC Radio 1 Vintage, a 3-day station celebrating the presenters and programmes of the last 50 years.

To image and promote the station we blended the music and imaging of the last 5 decades with long-time Radio 1 voice over, John Wells. JAM Creative Productions made many of the original sung jingles for BBC Radio 1, and so we asked them to help us create the sound of Radio 1 Vintage.

This is just some of the audio we produced to brand and promote BBC Radio 1 Vintage.

Having already being singled out as an artist to watch out for in 2018, Will Easton presents his debut release on W&O Street Tracks with a fine triplet of tracks on the “18 Month Free Trial” EP.

The title track has notched up radio play already from the BBC Radio 1 team of Annie Mac, Pete Tong, Danny Howard and Monki, as well as club support from the likes of Patrick Topping, Solardo and Waze & Odyssey, and it’s not hard to see why.  “18 Month Free Trial”, with its irresistible ascending synth riff, bumping groove and shuffling percussion, is a fully formed and fully road tested dancefloor heater!

“Take It To The Bridge” mashes up rave chops and rasping bass as Easton ramps up the BPMs; snare rolls and old school piano stabs make for one hell of an industrious production, whilst on “Karma”, arpeggiated keys and vocal refrains are joined by a hefty bassline and driving drums for a real ‘hands in the air’ house moment.
