Tribute to a fat family feline who recently died after two decades of dear duty as loyal pet.

BLINDNESS
At twenty years of age, he went blind,
But safe in home, no new path to find,
He laid down low in age-old comfort,
Once burly, now boney and inert.

BEGGING
He shuffled around in search of food,
Demanding much from our aptitude
To serve a beggar, a stray, a cat.
Despite his years, he acted like that.

TIME
Then came the day when he ceased to feast;
We found him alone seeking release.
Under a bed, he had planned to pass,
And there we all did quickly amass.

BOX
We brought out a box and he got in,
Brittle and brown and terribly thin.
And there were our words spoken so sad
To Dexter, our dying cat comrade.

TRANSIT
Window gazing on the way to die,
A blur before his wide sightless eyes,
He meowed, he murmured, he made a mew
As if to say “goodbye” and “thank you”.

CLINIC
And there within the last place he pawed,
Demanding the doctor’s small slim rod,
I waited with weak and shaking voice
To kill my cat by my own damn choice.

DEATH
Sunk by sedative until he fell,
Face to floor, his last breaths to expel.
So slowly he heaved ’til his heart stopped,
And lying still, death he did adopt.

OVERVIEW
He lived so long, so why should I sigh?
The past is present within my mind.
We’ll always pay our deepest respects
To our once so fat feline friend Dex.

The radio is such an awful platform.

Patience might be best taught by a traffic light at night. Although nothing may stand in your way, you're not permitted to go until the green light says the time's right. In the song, I apply this particular phenomenon to love. Just substitute the green traffic arrow for Cupid's pink projectile and you've got a similar situation.
