"It was a privilege to be invited to play one of the opening sets at Selectors. Being able to share music in a beautiful setting with an open-minded eager crowd felt truly liberating after these months of lockdowns and curfews. My stage was the newly formed Magnolia chill-out area. With four hours to explore, I began my set blending in with the sound of the cicadas, before eventually kicking the cushions out of the way as an invitation to dance. The highlight was seeing so many friendly faces, old and new. Shout out to Daniel, Devon, Yunis, Fee, Femke, William, Momoyo, Mika, Mina, Richii, Takako, Richard the Fig Man, and the lovely folk from Dekmantel: Vinnie, Joost, and Bob."

Next up on the @idlecellars mix series we have the legendary Phil Mison. One of my favourite DJ’s (and humans) his history alone is enough to warrant anyone’s respect but his music truly speaks for itself. I’m delighted to offer this exquisite journey from someone I consider to be an unsung hero of sorts. Certainly a hero of mine. He was there from day one. Some history here for those that don’t know his roots, in his own words…

“Cafe Del Mar opened in 1980, but never had a resident dj until José Padilla started  in 1991. I'd heard him play there that year and bought some tapes from him. I didn't go back in 92 but made a couple of tapes that a friend went out and gave him, similar stuff to what he was playing. Later that year i met him in Tag records in soho. He remembered the tapes and i invited him along to the Milk Bar where i was resident at the time. 

In early march 1993, José had an offer to go and DJ in asia and asked me if i wanted to cover for him at the Café Del Mar while he was away. Of course i said yes and a couple of weeks later he turned up at the Milk Bar with plane tickets and the keys to his house. I flew out at the end of March and played every day until the first week of May. I returned to London as i still had my residency at the Milk Bar and other gigs at the Ministry & Gardening Club. I went back for my birthday in September, played a couple more times and just hung out listening to music. 

José returned to London later that year for the winter. He asked if i wanted to be resident with him for the whole summer of 1994. I flew out late may and stayed until late september. I met quite a few people out there that year including Paul Daley, which led me onto becoming Leftfields tour DJ in 1996. Also Kennneth Bager, Harvey and a few others that are still good friends today.” Enjoy friends 🐬
