My submission for the Naviar Haiku Compilation 235, sounds to accompany a poem by Soen Nakagawa, but truly inspired by the story that came with it (please read below).

Splendid affinity
sun's great halo
green leaves

Words from Naviar Records that inspired this piece-- Author Sean Murphy, in his “One Bird, One Stone: 108 Contemporary Zen Stories”, tells us an interesting story about Zen Buddhist master and poet Soen Nakagawa, during his time spent in the U.S.: 
“Soen loved to walk around New York City. He’d stare at the lighted skyscrapers, at their tops, he claimed he saw Buddha figures in the lights. “Look at the Buddha,” he’d point, “Shining Buddha!” He’d fill the sleeves of his robes with nuts and berries from Central Park or herbs growing in the sidewalk cracks, and add them to his bowl at the next meal. He loved the musical Fiddler on the Roof, and when asked a question about why some particular point of ceremony needed to be performed in a certain way, he might burst into song, responding “Tradition…!”

I love this story, it really caused me to connect with the poem.  What a fun and joyous experience.  Furthermore, I love the big city, especially NYC.  As a photographer, I also have a rather unique relationship with the sun, a constant source of fascination.  This was a very quick piece, from the gut, informed by insomnia.  I hope you enjoy.

My submission for the Naviar Haiku Compilation 237, sounds to accompany a poem by Kobayashi Issa, and equally inspired by my love of both the mountains, and dragonflies, which I love to chase with a camera.  Really, you just have to sit and hang with them.  They will land on you and chill.  More below, but first, the poem:

The distant mountains
are reflected in the eye
of the dragonfly

This poem caused me to go down many a rabbit hole, but eventually, in the 13th hour, I came up with these sounds and "song".  A one week turn around is tough on me . . . many a new instrument made in Ableton, much late night digging and exploring.  Hardware exploration.  Heavy writing/"mix-mastering".  Lots of good beer.  The glitchy sounds come from sample packs created by my friend Bicho Raro, these packs are really fun to dig through (https://bichoraro.bandcamp.com/album/bicho-raro-sample-pack-01) . . . and Bicho is really fun to listen to (https://soundcloud.com/bicho-raro) and collaborate with. My submission for the Naviar Haiku Compilation 239, sounds to accompany a poem by Philip Whalen, equally inspired by my love of the poem, and my seemingly lifelong battle with sleep.  Those little dreams we get in between bouts of sleep and awake can be a doozy. Mine are typically anxiety based.   More below, but first, the poem:
