An instrumental pop song composed and recorded by myself using Cubase Pro 10 DAW.
I wanted to have a 1980's feel for this track, which I used only two software synthesizers: Steinberg HALion Sonic 3 and DS Audio Thorn, both of which were controlled using the Nektar Impact LX49+ MIDI keyboard.
Drums are using various kit pieces from Toontrack Superior Drummer 3 and bass is myself playing an Ernie Ball MusicMan Classic StingRay 5 through an Audient iD14 audio interface (JFET instrument input) using Evidence Audio 'The Lyric HG' instrument cable.
Much of the mix processing was done using the excellent PSP Audioware Infinistrip plugin with Fabfilter, Waves, Valhalla and Plugin Alliance/Brainworx also featuring. The song was mastered using Steinberg Wavelab Elements 10.5 using PSP Noble Q EX, PSP Mastercomp, Fabfilter Pro Q3 and PSP Xenon master limiter.

Labyrinths Of Titan

Made using Cubase 10 Pro music production software.
An electronic ambient song featuring various vocal samples, some of which are my voice, some are not!
Featuring software synthesizers including Steinberg's Padshop 2, HALion Sonic 3 and Retrologue 2, Unfiltered Audio Lion and DS Audio Thorn from Plugin Alliance and drums from Toontrack Superior Drummer 3.
Inspired by seeing a film about the Dead Sea Scrolls and reading about the ancient character Enoch, who it is rumoured had visitations from extra terrestrial beings that taught him how to build, amongst other skills, which some say then gave rise to the Great Pyramids of Egypt, for which credit was mainly given to the fourth dynasty Egyptian pharaoh Khufu.
The recording of the summer storm was done from my bedroom window using a Zoom H4n Pro using its built in microphones set to 120 degree capture pattern.
The track was mastered in Steinberg Wavelab Elements 10.5 using SPL Iron compressor by Brainworx/Plugin Alliance, Fabfilter Pro-Q3 equalizer and Fabfilter Pro-L2 limiter.

An instrumental rock song recorded on a HP PC laptop with Steinberg Cubase 9.5 Pro DAW and an Audient iD14 audio interface. 
Instruments: 
Suhr Modern six string electric guitar (through Brainworx bx_rockrack dual rectifier amp sim and cab emulations), 
Ernie Ball MusicMan Classic StingRay five string bass guitar (DI signal blended with Brainworx bx_bassdude amp sim and Kazrog Ram Fuzz), 
Toontrack Superior Drummer 3 drum software 
Air Music Technology Hybrid 3, Velvet 2 and Vacuum Pro soft synths 
Steinberg HALion Sonic 3 soft synth 
Initial Audio Sektor soft synth 
Mixing plugin software: 
Steinberg Cubase channel strips were the main shaping tools on each separate track, with Brainworx bx_console SSL 4000E and G, plus bx_console N channel strips on all the busses. 
The main mix bus featured the Vertigo VSC-2 compressor, Fabfilter Pro-Q3 EQ, Black Box Analog Designs HG-2 and Softube Tape to give colour and saturation. 
Some of the other track processors included Voxengo MSED, PSP PreQurser 2 EQ, Fabfilter Pro-C2 compressor, Fabfilter Pro-Q3 EQ, SPL IRON compressor on drum bus, Elysia Phil's Cascade on keys bus, PSP Stomp Delay and Maag EQ4 on the guitar bus, Waves CLA-2A compressor, Brainworx bx_2098 EQ, Brainworx bx_stereomaker, Valhalla Ubermod (for chorusing on the Rhodes piano's) with their Vintage Verb, Room and Shimmer reverbs and Izotope Vinyl features in the outro. 
Mastered in Cubase with SPL IRON compressor, SPL Passeq passive EQ, Fabfilter Pro-Q3 EQ, Brainworx bx_masterdesk and the PSP Audioware Xenon limiter. Klanghelm VUMT meters and Voxengo SPAN were placed on the stereo out channel to analyse loudness, spectral and stereo imaging.

Terraformer

Instrumental hard rock/metal song originally recorded using Steinberg Cubase Pro 9 DAW, I have remixed and remastered the original tracks into something altogether kinder on the ears!
As I have improved my skills and general knowledge of audio production, my mixes have hopefully taken the next step, though far from perfect, they're much more listenable than the original uploads! 
Instruments used: Schecter Blackjack ATX seven string guitar strung with Dunlop Heavy Core (10-60), an Ernie Ball MusicMan StingRay Classic five string bass with Elixir Nanoweb strings (50-135), Steinberg Halion Sonic 3 soft synth VST for the keyboard sounds, controlled by a Nektar Impact LX49+ controller keyboard, Toontrack Superior Drummer 2 providing the drum sounds.
The remix was done chiefly using Steinberg's stock channel strips, with the grouped busses being processed largely by Brainworx bx_console SSL 4000G and E channel strip plugins. 
The main rhythm guitar was rebuilt using the original raw DI tracks fed into the Brainworx bx_rockrack amp simulator on the 'Modern Rock' setting, which is an emulation of a Mesa Rectifier, also using the built in cabinet impulses (American 4x12 with an SM57 mic).
The bass was a mix of DI signal (EQ'ed with a scooped midrange in the 800Hz region) and the same track duplicated, but with some severe high and low pass filters added, to leave only the midrange, which was then distorted using the Elysia Karacter saturation plugin.
Many of the tracks were shaped and contoured using Fabfilter Pro-Q3 and Pro-Q2 EQ's to make them sit in the mix a little better, also the reverbs and delays used on drum, keys and guitar tracks were changed to Valhalla DSP Vintage Verb, which is a really nice algorithmic emulation of colourful 70's and 80's units, with Ubermod multitap delay taking care of the flanging and delay used on the rhythm guitar (especially at the end of the song.)
Brainworx bx_townhouse bus compressor, Fabfilter Pro-Q3 EQ, Blackbox Analog Designs HG-2 saturator and Softube Tape were used on the mix bus.
Remastered in Cubase using the usual array of processors, including the new SPL IRON compressor, SPL Passeq EQ, Fabfilter Pro-Q3 EQ, Brainworx bx_masterdesk and PSP Audioware Xenon limiter.

Euphonious Flux

An instrumental hard rock song produced using Steinberg Cubase Pro 9.5 DAW on a Windows 10 PC. 
Instruments used on the track include a Schecter ATX Blackjack seven-string electric guitar through Positive Grid Bias FX amp and cabinet simulations, an Ernie Ball Musicman Classic StingRay 5 bass (DI signal printed through a Boss RCL-10 Compressor/Limiter which I've had since 1985, blended with a distorted signal using Elysia Karacter plugin)and an Epiphone J-200 acoustic guitar recorded with a Rode NT2A microphone. 
Various software synthesizers including Steinberg's Halion Sonic 3, Retrologue 2, Padshop Pro and Spector and also Air Music Technology Hybrid 3. 
Drums were provided by Toontrack Superior Drummer 3, using a mostly Lugwig kit, including a 'Supersensitive' snare. 
A variety of mixing plugins were used, mainly from Brainworx, Fabfilter, PSP Audioware, SoundToys, Softube, Valhalla DSP, Kazrog and Waves; An overall flavour of Neve style EQ's and channel strips were employed, along with the excellent stock plugins and channel strips in Cubase.

An electronic instrumental song produced using Cubase Pro 9.5 DAW and an Audient iD14 audio interface using software synthesizers, samples and midi drums.
Instruments used were:
Steinberg Halion Sonic 3, Retrologue 2 and Padshop Pro,
Brainworx bx_oberhausen,
Air Music Technology Hybrid 3,
Toontrack Superior Drummer 3.
Audio processing plugins from Brainworx, Plugin Alliance, Fabfilter, SoundToys, Softube, Kazrog (Synth Warmer and True Iron), Valhalla DSP (notably their newest Valhalla Delay effect), PSP Audioware and Waves were all used throughout tracking and mixing.
All MIDI data was recorded using a Nektar Impact LX49+ controller keyboard.

Harmed & Dangerous

An instrumental synth track which fades in gradually, accompanied by some big drum sounds.
Recorded using Cubase Pro 9.5 with an Audient iD14 audio interface, the song uses the Brainworx bx_oberhausen soft synth and drums from Toontrack Superior Drummer 3.
The song also showcases the new Valhalla Delay from Valhalla DSP, as well as Vintage Verb from the same company. The tracks were coloured and processed with the Kazrog True Iron plugin with channel strip EQ and compression from the Brainworx bx_console 'N' on each individual track.
Additional EQ and dynamic processing from Fabfilter's Pro-Q3, PSP Audioware MasterComp compressor and Softube Tape plugins were used during mixing, with Kazrog True Iron, Brainworx bx_2098 EQ, SPL IRON mastering compressor, Fabfilter Pro-Q3, Brainworx bx_masterdesk and Fabfilter Pro-L2 limiters were used for the post mix mastering.
A Nektar Impact LX49+ MIDI controller keyboard was used to control bx_oberhausen and a Korg PadKontrol to form the drum patterns.

An instrumental electronic ambient song, produced entirely by myself using Steinberg Cubase Pro 9.5 DAW on a Windows 10 PC with an Audient iD14 audio interface. 
All of the instruments used are software synthesizers, including Applied Acoustic Systems Lounge Lizard Session electric piano, Steinberg HALion Sonic 3 and Retrologue 2, Air Music Technology Hybrid 3 and drums from Toontrack Superior Drummer 3. 
A Nektar Impact LX49+ MIDI controller keyboard and Korg PadKontrol were used during recording. 
Tracked and mixed using software effects plugins from Steinberg, Plugin Alliance & Brainworx, PSP Audioware, Waves, FabFilter, Kazrog, SoundToys, Empirical Labs, Acustica Audio, Valhalla DSP, Softube, Klanghelm, Voxengo, Audiority, Audified, Overloud and Audio Damage.

Brakes, You Don't Need Brakes!

An instrumental rock song produced by myself using Cubase Pro 10 DAW. Remixed from an older song made nearly eight years ago (Rocko Pompo) with recently added synth overdubs and enhanced production techniques over the original, which was produced entirely using a Zoom R24 multitrack recorder. 
Instruments used were: 
Ernie Ball MusicMan Axis guitar, 
Squier 1985 MIJ Precision Bass, 
Drums from the Zoom R24, 
Steinberg Halion Sonic 3 soft synth, 
Air Instruments Hybrid 3 soft synth, 
Brainworx bx_oberhausen soft synth. 
The original guitar tracks were recorded through a Roland Cube 80XL amplifier with a clean setting, using effects pedals which included an MXR Super Comp compressor, MXR Fullbore Metal distortion, a Wampler Pinnacle distortion, TC Electronic Corona Chorus, Strymon El Capistan tape echo delay, Strymon BlueSky reverb and an MXR Smart Gate noise gate. Also, for much of the rhythm guitar, I used the Cube 80's built in Flanger effect. 
For this Cubase remix, I treated the original guitar tracks with Kazrog Recabinet using an oversize Mesa Boogie 4x12 and a Shure SM57 impulse response. 
Bass was recorded using a Korg Toneworks Pandora PX4D effects processor to get the distorted sound with an SVT amp simulation and 8x10 cabinet effect.

Lineage

Entirely self taught amateur musician, photographer and artist/illustrator based in the UK.
For many years I worked as a press photographer in the North West of England and North Wales, but was made redundant recently, allowing me time to enhance my music making skills, whilst living a somewhat frugal lifestyle.
I'm always seeking to improve my music making, having played the guitar and bass guitar for many years. In recent times, I've branched out into keyboards, which I have dabbled with from time to time, but now find they are essential to almost any genre of music.
I welcome questions and comments, constructive criticism and both giving and receiving tips and hints about making music or any of the creative arts, whenever possible.
