Kept that one quiet mate... shhhhhh ;) (nice remix!)

Heavily influenced by the acid house/rave scene “back in the day” at parties like Resurrection, Awesome 101's & Sweatbox, Rob Murray started his DJ journey with passion and verve. He’d put in the hours practicing at home and played at every party he got the opportunity to. Encouraged by friends to hand out mixes on cassette tapes, his audience soon grew and his name started to become known as a reliable selector by ravers and fellow DJ’s alike. One such follower was Scottish rave heavyweight DJ ZBD who Rob handed a mix tap at their local record shop in Kirkcaldy. Club gigs started to come his way including performances at Meltdown at Carlton Studios. He was on the right track to keep raising his profile but then had to put things on hold when he took on a job that would take him overseas for some time. After a long break Rob Murray is back doing what he loves. With residencies on 4TM and Waves Radio shows he is able to showcase his love for indie dance, acid house, chug and downtempo and his audience is once again growing, as is reputation.

Ransom Note Records are delighted to welcome back Freelance Disco Consultant and Beat Raconteur, Mr Sean Johnston with 2 (yes, TWO!!!) bumper deal mixes of C.A.R.’s 2023 single ANZU, ricocheting off each other in perfect harmony. Perhaps better known to the rave going public as Hardway Bros or the nourisher of the ALFOS flame, Sean has been a stalwart of the UK underground for over three decades, amounting a truly enviable back catalogue of dance floor destroyers and party pounders.

In true Johnston form, he attacks ANZU from two deadly precise, but separate angles. ANZU (Hardway Bros Remix) is both a four on the floor stomper, but simultaneously a delicate, almost histrionic synth workout. Highlighting Chloe C.A.R.’s beautiful vocals and arpeggios, Sean adds a few of his own trademark flourishes and slings an enormous rhythm section underneath. The bowel quivering bass line only to be outdone by the quake-making kick drum, which take turn in firing low frequency shots into our chest cavities at metered intervals. Duality in the disco!

Not content with dicing ANZU in just that one way, Sean’s also provided Anzu (Hardway Bros Conqueror Knock Dub). With a nod to his musical heritage, this version pulls on sounds from UK Acid House Revolution of the early nineties, with only a fraction of the violence associated with most revolutions. We are, however, coshed over the bonce with all manner of aural weapons: from funky bass guitars, to House Organs and flanged modulations (the insalubrious source of which is not clear), we are pummelled into submission. By which we mean that we are in fact dancing our tits off on the floor, sweating profusely, whistles in mouths with arms in the air.

It's one of my favourite creations...
Anyway...the algorithm doesn't agree so it's barely reached 1000 listens...

Andrea Frittella, originally from Italy, currently based in Luxembourg, is a DJ and producer whose musical career began in the late 1990s. He is widely recognized for his project "Irregular Disco Workers”, which showcases his diverse musical style, including disco, electro, and house influences. Since its inception in 2010, Irregular Disco Workers has become a prominent figure in the nu-disco music genre, releasing numerous vinyl and digital tracks. Known as a "remix machine”, IDW has crafted over a multitude of remixes and collaborated with various labels worldwide, solidifying its reputation in the industry.

Mr Wilkinson Secret Remix #1

Witness Protection Program (WPP) is a space for artists to bathe in anonymity, allowing them to release music that they wouldn’t be able to otherwise. It’s a Work in Perpetual Progress.

Launched in July 2021, WPP has since released 17 singles and a couple of EPs featuring re-edits.

The main artistic entities on WPP are Davin Varda and Troels Yuri. While they maintain their own anonymity, they collaborate with various known artists such as Olugbenga Adeleken (Metronomy), Fritz Helder (Azari & III), Middle Sky Boom, Buscadora and Talis Klein.

Yuri and Varda share a passion for electronic music that bends the rules and surprises the ears, drawing from a wide range of musical influences: from techno to ambient, jazz to new wave, dub to disco. Their tracks are a sonic roller coaster, taking listeners from the depths of despair to the heights of ecstasy, blending experience with a sense of childish playfulness, and balancing spontaneity with deliberation.

Davin Varda leans towards a more optimistic and lighter sound, while Troels Yuri prefers a darker, more sombre tone.
