In this song, Call Me Ace places listeners in the suit and shoes of a black white collar worker, exhausted by the microaggressions, lack of accessible opportunities, and constant underappreciation that occurs—directly and indirectly—in predominantly white corporate environments. When the odds are stacked against you, and your presence is already a rarity, “occupational progress” really feels more illusionary than reality. Ace delivers these matter-of-fact observations with a storyline so assertive that the mellow production feels both satirical and, once that “out of office” message goes up, relieving.
