Yes... the real name is "Shevat, The Wind is Calling."  However, in the spirit of the holidays I've re-arranged the percussion and added some festive jingle bells (oh yeah, and a pretty sick beat on the triangle).

In addition, I used this project as my first "Don't Open Kontakt" challenge, where many of my go-to instruments reside.  This was done entirely with Ableton's stock instruments (the percussion, bells and marimba), Omnisphere and Trilian.  I learned some new tricks along the way and I'm happy with the final product.

Successor is a massive Final Fantasy VIII remix album by the Materia Collective! Over 90 tracks by even more performers! Was amazing getting to be a part of it, since FFVIII was my intro to Final Fantasy and Nubuo Uematsu, my Game Music Step Dad.

This is my remix of "The Man With The Machine Gun," featuring the ridiculous talents of:

Update:  This track is now available for purchase everywhere on the Internet, and can be streamed via Spotify!  Search your preferred vendor (iTunes, Google Play, Amazon Music) for Upper Brinstar, and look for my name.  It's only a dollar if you want to own it forever!

Not sure which composer to credit here as this game's music was done by a brilliant team:  Kenji Yamamoto, Minako Hamano, Hirokazu Tanaka, Yoshiyuki Ito and Masumi Ito.  From start to finish, they did an amazing job with setting the mood of the planet Zebes and made this a truly memorable game.

I can't remember how many times I did a 100% speed run of this game as a kid.  Among all the boss battles and crazy stunts to get hard items, one of my favorite moments was coming down that elevator from Crateria to Brinstar after beating Torizo and hearing this theme kick in.     It's amazing.

Upper Brinstar (Super Metroid)

I always enjoyed the way Uematsu's "chase tracks" were written, like Hurry! from FFVII or Run! from FFIX.  This is a similar track that has always had potential to be remade with some extra flavor, and I had to pick it for this album!  This was my first project that I took greater liberties in re-creating the original content while maintaining the mood and intensity of the original.  I hope this brings back memories of being chased by the Black Widow through the streets of Dollet.

This track wouldn't have come together without the awesome work of Julia Henderson, also known as PyjamaPantsMusic on YouTube.  A few days ago, she sent me a portion of a future Zelda medley she plans to release so I could evaluate the mix.  A day later, I realized that I kept the file she sent me and came up with the idea to give it a dance beat.
