For today's Soundcloud Sunday track I challenged myself to choose a random phrase and improvise only on that. I opened a book and read "Where to get food for the next three days." Enjoy.

Today's challenge was to work on D Phrygian. I did this in two ways today (hence two tracks). 

In this first track, I used iReal Pro to make a ii V7 I progression backing track  in C, to practice D-Phrygian on the ii.

In this second track, I used a D drone to freely get the sound of D Phrygian out in the world, then went off of it and returned to it throughout the track.

I first wrote this as a syncopation exercise on the first day of Autumn, inspired by the crimson and burnt orange-colored bars of the vibraphone I was playing. With a MalletKAT and Logic Pro X, it then grew into something bigger. No premade loops; everything was played on the MalletKAT and a MIDI keyboard.

I wrote this song while attending the NYC climate strike on September 20, 2019. It is composed almost entirely of slogans I saw on signs.

I wrote this song while in Marsh Harbour, Abaco, Bahamas volunteering with All Hands and Hearts. My volunteer service was cut short because of COVID-19, but I hope to raise the spirits of all of us who were sent home early with this creation.
