Earth Frequency Festival, what a time!! It was such an honour to play opening night on the main stage, words cannot describe how grateful I am for this experience and how pivotal performing for the first time here was.

Huge thank you to the organisers and crew who worked so hard to bring this festival to life, and to everyone losing their shit on the dance-floor. After years of cancelled events this is exactly what my soul needed.

Dedicated to a dear friend of mine, this set was such an excellent chance to reconnect with my favourite organic house, playa tech, and electronic moody music with very little vocals. Huge thanks to the team at Camp Querencia who reached out to me to play in their lounge area at our regional Burning Man event, Burn in the Forest, this year. It was an honour to be able to provide a soundtrack to your consensual and sexy space.

Welcome back to another soul-fulfilling hour my friends; this is the second instalment of Resonance + Flow, performed live at the vibrant Gallery Merrick in downtown Victoria. Complemented by the tranquil ambiance of a yoga class led by Kimber, this beautiful gathering served as a heartfelt fundraiser in-memory of an extraordinary soul, Nick Deorter "Soco," who tragically lost his life to the opioid crisis in 2017. It's times like these where bringing friends & attendees together is of the utmost importance. Kimber & I find immense joy & warmth in sharing these moments with the community, and we hope to see you at the next Resonance + Flow.

Kelowna, British Columbia – Rachel Geek (Rachel Gieck) unveils her first fully realized original house inspired, '2023 Shambhala live Mix'. This mix is not just a collection of top house beats; it's an all original production that represents her personal growth and mental rejuvenation, symbolizing the turning point to her new found journey in both her life and music.

 

"In 2019, my Shambhala journey wasn't just a set, it was a curated odyssey. From the warmth of a friend's generosity to the beats echoing freely in my car, and the clandestine rhythms hidden in a secret attic above an office – every location shaped the sonic tapestry of that unforgettable year. Music isn't just heard; it's lived, felt, and woven into the very spaces that embrace its magic."
 

From Challenges to Triumph: The Story Behind the Beats

Her 2023 Shambhala live Mix (performed on the Amp stage on Sunday) is more than just a musical venture; it's a narrative of resilience. Rachel's journey has been one of introspection and challenge, marked by her collaboration with a renowned production teacher who she greatly admired. "It's been an enlightening path," Rachel shares. "Having my work critiqued, undergoing intense coaching, and learning to trust this process was daunting, yet it paved the way for tremendous personal and artistic growth."

This mix is a testament to Rachel's perseverance. "There were moments of doubt," she admits, "but my mentor assured me – follow the program, and the results will come. And they did. Despite the sweltering heat at Shambhala, I delivered one of my most memorable performances. You can feel that energy in this mix."

 

A Journey of Musical Evolution

Rachel's evolution is evident in her transition from tense tunes to the rhythmic pulse of house music. Inspired by artists like Kaytranada, she found solace and expression in this genre. "Discovering house music was a turning point for me. It became my canvas for healing and expression, it also inspired me to dye my hair blonde as per my friend and therapists suggestion”, Rachel reflects. 

The mix also mirrors Rachel's personal transformation, symbolized by her bold decision to cut and dye her hair blonde. "This change isn't just physical. It represents my journey towards embracing change and essentially learning how to grow up and put the past behind me” she explains.

Rachel's experience at Shambhala, interacting with other artists and the community, has been pivotal. “Having the opportunity to witness female artists like Whipped Cream and Nostalgix perform live and up close has been one of the most inspiring moments of my life. Thanks to Shambhala It pushed me far enough out of my comfort zone that I moved provinces and took a job working with displaced youth. That journey alone inspires me to continue on my road to recovery and wellness everyday” she concludes.

Back in the day, Mt. Doyle was known for his smooth taste in Drum & Bass and his unmatched love for pizza. But it wasn't long before Doyle expanded his horizons to include Funk, House, Hip-Hop and Bass, all with his soulful West Coast flavour. He quickly became a staple in the BC electronic music scene, known not only for his multi-genre sets but his range of recorded mixes as well.

Over the past 10 years, Mt. Doyle has played lounges, clubs and festivals all over the North West, including Shambhala, Lightning In A Bottle, Rifflandia, Electric Love, Wicked Woods, Friendzy Fest, Fozzy Fest, Bamboo Bass, Astral Harvest, Ska Fest, Sun Fest and The Tall Tree Festival. In that time he’s shared the stage with international heavyweights Aphrodite, Camo & Krooked, Ed Solo, A.Skillz, Stickybuds, The Funk Hunters, Chali 2na, JFB, Dub FX, Rusko, Technimatic, LSB & DRS, Serial Killaz, Dub Pistols, Ray Keith, Netsky and Andy C.

In 2016 Mt. Doyle started The Hydration Mix Series, a monthly Liquid Drum & Bass podcast with DJs Akela, Willisist, Erski, Reflektor, Lasu and DJ Surgeon. Later that year Doyle took on a whole new style as he joined the ranks of Victoria based Hip-Hop band Illvis Freshly, where he made his singing debut. Now, when he's not solo, you can catch his live set with Doyle on vocals and Philly on the guitar.

Over the years Mt. Doyle has established himself as one of the most versatile DJs on Vancouver Island. With a mountainous lust for music and style that keeps you guessing, Mt. Doyle will keep bodies moving any time, any place, with whatever the hell he wants.
