Originally a cumbia beat made with Sueños y Raices, when the MTL Sauce Piquante project started, completely redid the beat with a punk rock power energy. Elo wrote an entire song and then as she was driving over, a totally new, beautifully devastating song came to her.

Elo Sono is a singer and multi-instrumentalist of Peruvian and Québécois descent. She has been part of the Montreal music scene since her childhood, performing with artists like Labess and Sonido Pesao, connecting the latin, rumba, and Maghrebin music scenes through her music.

The first time Ramon and Oonga got together to jam, they created the bones of this track, with a keyboard line and chorus quickly coming. The horn line followed soon after and then Oonga spent literally YEARS trying to get the drums right. More verses were added, KC brought his inimitable spice to the tune, and here we are!

Ramon Chicharron is a Colombian singer-songwriter who has lived in Montreal for more than 15 years who connects his heritage with electronic, Caribbean and tropical influences. His 3rd album Pescador de Sueños won best world album at the ADISQ, and his 4th album Destello de estrellas was nominated at the ADISQ and GAMIQ. He has toured across Canada, Europe and South America.

Tropical Punk Rock bringing us back to reality, a reminder that the good times are to be cherished because you never know when a monster will try to destroy everything.

The only song on the album that existed before the process started, it was written by Eskeleto (just ask SOCAN!) who brought it to Oonga's place, which led to some badly recorded guitars and some really thumpy drums that somehow all came together to fit both of their vision, isn't that nice. Then they turned it into cumbia because you should always turn everything into cumbia.

Eskeleto is an extremely eclectic trilingual Montreal singer-songwriter and visual artist of Peruvian descent. He has been aprt of an industrial band, electropunk band, as well as performing at indie rock showcase Spazztic Ear Honey and cumbia event MTL Pachangón.

What began as an afrobeat-inspired tropical bass track became a punk song once Diogo got involved. Bianca added her unique flavour and then KC happened to be around and he started singing like ODB and then we had to add some samba flavour and now here we are.

Diogo Ramos is a Brazilian singer-songwriter and producer who has released 20 albums over his 25 year career. He spent 10 years playing weekly in one of the most popular clubs in Sao Paulo, has toured across Canada with his band, and recorded nearly every Brazilian musician in Canada.

La Cumbia SVP! is the first studio recording from Montreal’s sweatiest cumbia crew, Less Toches. Made up of 5 members from across Latin America, all obsessed with the analog trance sound of classic cumbia, the group spent 2024 performing 70+ times in Montreal, honing its electrifying take on the classic accordion-driven cumbia sound. 

The song La Cumbia SVP! Is about finding yourself far from home, with friends who are also far from their homes, and reconnecting with their collective roots through the music, through the sound of cumbia.

Chellz is an MC of Salvadorian descent who grew up in the multicultural St Michel neighbourhood of Montreal. His artistic work is mostly in Spanish: conscious and powerful lyrics with freestyle skills soaked in the black and brown urban immigrant culture.

As one of the leading latin MCs in Canada, Chellz has been a key figure in the Montreal music community for more than 15 years, His group Sonido Pesao has been at the forefront of the alternative latin scene in Canada for a long time, twisting cumbia and merengue-influenced punk rock and hip hop sounds into their own heavy soundz.

In his solo work Chellz is a creative lyricist who knows his way around a wicked rap hook. For this EP, begun during the days of the Pachangon, cumbia and reggaeton collide and the party looks like it's gonna get sweaty! On this EP he teams up with Oonga for 4 songs of love and death, lust and freedom, combining rap, reggaeton, dembow, and punk rock. We're making pupusas, it's gonna get sweaty!

La nouvelle chanson de Less Toches est une traduction libre par Jacob Basque des paroles de « No soy de aqui, ni soy de alla » du grand chanteur argentin Facundo Cabral. La traduction de Jacob Basque cré un lien entre la culture hispanique et francophone, renforçant l'esprit cosmopolite, et surtout montréalais, de Less Toches.

Une chanson en deux parties, avec le rythme du boléro qui commence par instaurer une ambiance bucolique, de la bohème et de la nostalgie propre du latino-américain qui chante à la distance et la mémoire. Tout d’un coup la chanson explose dans un rythme de cumbia énergétique, signature de Less Toches pour porter nos chagrins, les embellir et les guérir avec la plus grande des fiestas possible. La poésie se mêle à la frénésie, la mélancolie et à la joie, une célébration des luttes et triomphes de l’expérience humain.

Less Toches began over one special summer, as the band members found each other as if by magic. One evening in a park, while sitting on a picnic table jamming with some friends, vallenato accordionist John Gonzalez hears a peculiar voice. After a long session, John invites his new friend, Acadian-Mexican poet Jacob Basque, to jam with Dani and Lucas, a chance encounter creates a spark, a new band.

Un Guaro à Lafontaine is an homage to the mythical space in which Less Toches was born, Montreal’s Parc Lafontaine, one of the oldest and most beautiful in a city renowned for its green spaces, home to the legendary Lover’s Bridge, the amphitheatre, the art gallery, the skating pond, and the setting of countless moments in the lives of young Montrealers for more than 100 years. The EP’s songs sing of moments in the park, a dance between ex-lovers, a musician lying in the grass looking at the clouds, and cumbia jams that last all night.

The EP contains 4 tracks of accordion-driven cumbia punctuated by call and response gang vocals and relentless percussion, just the way abuela likes it. These are some of the band’s first compositions, created during that first magical summer of jamming and partying in the streets and parks of Montreal. They have since then been performed on massive outdoor festivals stages, sweaty late-night afterparties, and now presented in full recording splendour. As part of a new wave of alternative latin music in Canada, this new EP is perfect for global dance floors, taste-making playlists, and in the kitchens of cumbia lovers everywhere.

Less Toches - Un Guaro

Kon-Fusion is a multicultural punk band from Montreal that mashes Mexican ska-punk, Chilean cumbia, and traditional music of the Andes into a rebellious celebration. They are joining the MTL Sauce Piquante family to share their high energy ska version of the famous song Tinku, popularized by Victor Jara, featuring their brother Mixe Represent from Tamazulapan Mixe in Oaxaca, Mexico.

The song "Tinku" is a celebration of Quechua culture and people, who live throughout the Andes — from Peru to Bolivia, Ecuador, Chile, and Argentina. In the 1970s, Victor Jara's version became a powerful expression of resistance against dictatorship and a symbol of solidarity among peoples and with the Earth.

El Tinku is a traditional Bolivian festive song. The word tinku means “encounter,” but it goes much deeper than just a “hello” between villages. Originally, the tinku was a community ritual — sometimes even a bit combative — where villages would gather to honor Pachamama (Mother Earth).

For Kon-Fusion, this song is a joyful expression of solidarity between punk musicians and Indigenous cultures.
