This instrument made of fireballs immediately made me think of the two organ pipes I have in my studio. I took them outside and played them with a shop vac. A bit noisy, but there it is.

Added two elements to 33per's track, both are made from samples of the lowest organ pipe. Left lots of empty space.

As the original track is stereo and makes use of that, my mix is also stereo with my parts layered on. I have a version with hard panning if you prefer.

The right side was made with a meaty and glassy combo instrument using Pigments and Falcon. 
Following the approach of the original track on the left, I made a sparse arrangement, with plenty of air and spectrum for future collaborators.

I just added a 808 kick and played bass. Most satisfying and less time consuming on the lot, but I don’t think it works, a 4th (soloist) part is needed IMHO.

Krautrockish (with LazenbeeIndustries and John Wright) disquiet0638

I added a bit of static to CoralineAda’s and Leon Clowes’ mezmerizing duo as an attempt to heighten the tension of the “missed connection” implied by the vocal sample. The static was created with the Landscape Stereofield and tamed somewhat by one of Hainbach’s presets for the Zoia.

I basically had 4 tracks with different effects that I switched between kind of haphazardly. one with delay, one pitch shifted down 6 half steps, one with LFO and resonator, and the original track which I was going to leave alone but then I decided to make it sound like a clock radio with saturation and EQ.

The original track by analoc was in 7/4 time. The other parts built on that, but treating the rhythm in different ways. I decided to recast the whole piece in triplet 4/4 time at quite a bit faster tempo. Each of the three parts was re-fit to the new meter in different ways.

There has been some effects added to each track, mostly to make parts stand apart more, and bring out the bass register which is very muted in the original. Notably, there are parts of Peter's violin that I dropped an octave and slowed to add a bass part.

I removed some material to give it a more sectional structure.

Lastly, and I'm not sure I should have, I added a very light standard session drum set. I felt this helped add to the dinner club or Penguin Cafe Orchestra kind of feel I was after.

My 33 1/3 series book about the Aphex Twin album <i>Selected Ambient Works Volume II</i> was published in 2014. The book was one of the top 5 bestselling titles for the calendar year, and in 2015 was ranked by Pitchfork as one of the "33 best" of the 100-plus books in the 33 1/3 series. It has subsequently been translated into Japanese (2019) and Spanish (2018)

Since 2012 I have moderated the Disquiet Junto group, which began on SoundCloud. More at disquiet.com/junto. 

I've written for Nature, Pitchfork, The Wire, Down Beat, Boing Boing, NewMusicBox, Red Bull Music Academy, Art Practical, the website of The Atlantic, and many other publications. 

I've exhibited sound art at galleries in Los Angeles (Crewest), Manhattan (apex art), and Dubai (DUTAC), and I had a audio-visual installation at the San Jose Museum of Art as part of its 45th anniversary.

And since 1996 I've run the website Disquiet.com about the intersection of sound, art, and technology.
