Open Records is proud to present our first release for 2015, with this award-winning new EP from Melbourne masters Thankyou City.

Nothin’ But Chi is everything that makes the Australian sibling duo so great. Slick, stripped back and packed with warm bass vibes, this hypnotic tech-house groover is essential for the hot and sweaty Aussie summer season.

Without even being released to the public, the tune has been wildly successful for Thankyou City, taking out the Budweiser Made For Music People’s Choice Award at the Australian Independent Music Awards, one of Australia’s most respected music industry events.

Since the big win, the boys have featured the title track on an official Budweiser podcast on Deezer, alongside being featured by Vice’s Thump electronic music blog, the respected AU Underground Podcast and many more. They have also dropped successful EPs on D-Nox’s Sprout and Australia’s own Subsonic Music.

London innovator Inxec is up on remix duties, with a deep, evolving rework with just the right amount of acid for good measure. Perfect for club and festival alike, its darker vibe is a perfect contrast to the A-side.

Finally, the release closes out Lovely Sunday, another stunning original from Thankyou City.

Messrs David van der Leeuw and Luigi Vittorio Jansen have been making waves with their Beesmunt Soundsystem project, a lauded club night and DJ outfit that’s grown into a behemoth, breaking out of the Amsterdam dance music scene in which they made their name. Now the duo are returning to Pets Recordings with their new Raindance EP.

Beesmunt are used to controlling crowds and opening up the heavens with their eclectic, upfront and often frenetic style of house music. After releases on Soweso, Just Jack and of course last years huge Pets debut ‘Bodyshape', Catz N’Dogz have invited this emerging tour de force back, to bring their upfront, pristine production skills for another slice of block rocking music.

Opening cut 'Searchin’ kicks things off. The deep and bubbling number is characterised by the duo’s deep and bass heavy kick drums, with sweeping atmospherics, eerie vocal stabs and dusty, slo-mo drum claps. A mid tempo late night workout that touches all the right parts in equal measure as it blends house deepness with minimal pace.

Title track 'Raindance' starts with thick and fattened kick drums, while ticking clicks, 808 modulation percussion and one hit bass getting gnarlier and more stripped back on every 4th beat, evoking the sweaty vibes that characterised their raucous parties back at home.

Keeping true to its namesake on the flip, ‘Ominous' takes a different approach, coming with a stripped back, sound design approach, building up ominously into unpredictable beats before their trademark kick drum - rough around the edges and dripping in analogue clarity - pitches the track up a notch and un-relents until the very end. Finally, Borrowed Identity enters with remix of Searchin’, focusing on the atmospheric sweeps and vocal chops before dropping for a more 4x4 influenced workout, touched by hollow baselines and EQ’s chords.

Beesmunt Soundsystem are on fire with their unapologetic, raw style and sound. Two producers well ahead of their years.

For the sixth release on Tardis Records, label owners Eli Verveine and Oscar Schubaq proudly present two tracks from the personal archives of Peter Kremeier a.k.a. Losoul, a man who has been rocking dancefloors and enchanting listeners with his uniquely abstract and tripped-out take on minimal house for two decades and counting. On the A-side, “Soda Island” hangs cut-up vocal stabs over the last word in bone-dry, bass-heavy grooves. “Sparkling Please” on the flip starts out cheerfully but then subtly mutates into spooked insectoid psychedelia anchored by crisp percussion and bass. Drop either of these cuts at the right moment and watch the dancers lose their minds! Mastered and cut by Stefan Betke at Scape Mastering.

On 2nd November 2018 Sven Tasnadi is back on Moon Harbour with a brand new and brilliant full length entitled “Bridges”. It features a host of collaborators from Huxley to David Jach to Supernova, and showcases the German’s always infectious house sound. Four of the 12 tracks will be released on an exclusive vinyl sampler, and on 5th October Sven Tasnadi serves up the tasty album single “It’s Your Love” with a brilliant remix from man of the moment, Dennis Cruz. 

Tasnadi hails from Leipzig and is a master of groove. He distills his tunes to the core elements needed to get you moving and feeling good, and has done so over three artist albums and more than 25 EPs since 2005. For this album, though, he decided to work with a range of musical friends as a way of, he says, “making a clear statement against the current worldwide trend of protectionism.” 

The album is informed by the saying “Build bridges, not walls”, and as Sven explains, bridges bring people together. “And only when we come together can we change things for the better. The house and techno scene initially attracted me 25 years ago as it was filled with people who were open-minded and versatile in nature, and I'm going to do my musical part to keep it that way.”

The album kicks off with the effortlessly cool and breezy house groover ‘Nothing’ with David Jach. Things get cheeky with the late night chords and rolling bass of ’My Soul’ with UK master Huxley and then Italian titans Supernova appear on ‘Keep Da Shit’, a more edgy tech tune with smart vocal stabs to bring the energy levels higher. Sven goes solo for the feel good vibes of ‘It's Your Love’ with its heart aching vocal sample, and again for the tropical, exotic and melodically colourful ‘Tequila’ which takes us deep into the jungle. Filburt is the friendly connection on the deep, cuddly jazz keys of ‘French Dress’ and after a brilliantly loose hip hop interlude, Sven cooks up the sample heavy, party starting ‘Get Down’ with Mac-Kee. Two versions of ‘Make It Right’ offer heartfelt, raw house while ‘Strings Rebirth’ is a freaky late night cut with warped synths and naughty bass and ‘Bug In My Machine’ with Moses Mehdi closes things out in starry eyed and cosmic melodic house territory. 

This is a superb album that explores many different house sounds, plenty of real emotions and well crafted melodies. The tracks become bridges and leave a lasting impression on your soul as a result. Build Bridges, not walls.
