Island Dream Sounds: 'Miyakojima' by An Di Yi

Escape to the subtropical island of Miyakojima, Japan, with this chilled ambient trip hop soundscape evoking pristine white sand beaches fringed by turquoise waters, some of the most beautiful in all of Okinawa.

This track evokes the feeling of floating in the crystal-clear sea, exploring vibrant coral reefs teeming with life. Snorkelling amongst colourful fish and gentle sea turtles, or kayaking in hidden coves.  Think of the laid-back island atmosphere, the warm subtropical climate, and the gentle breezes.

'Miyakojima' blends dubby basslines, delicate piano melodies, and orchestral textures with a touch of Japanese koto, creating an immersive and tranquil sonic escape. Perfect for relaxation, daydreaming of tropical getaways, or unwinding after a long day.

‘Viðihlið’ is the b-side to Ólöf’s new single ‘Hypnose’, released via One Little Indian on 24th March. 

“Víðihlíð is such a sneaky composition. It´s brilliantly simple and complex song at the same time. I finally got the guts to perform it now after flirting with it for years. Lately I´ve been gaining more courage to perform Megas´s songs in general, which must be a good thing, since he´s such a hero of mine. The lyrics describe in a bitter sweet manner the welcoming and loving arms of the hospital staff at Víðihlíð, a facility known for treating Icelandic women for addictions (or as then called neuroses) in the seventies.”

Ólöf’s new album ‘Palme’ represents her most collaborative to date, and also perhaps her most profoundly sensual & affecting. Musically, it offers up an astonishing wellspring of fresh ideas and playful experimentation – including a subtle electronic palette - that move the sound on from the acoustic approach that predominantly defined her earlier records.
