Our first mix is from Brooklyn multimedia artist @Muein (they/them) and is a gorgeous selection which modulates between ambient soundscapes and deep, rolling drum & bass.


"i usually approach mixes by accident. manic nights scavenging online might lead to opening ableton. i think i'm a bit too disorganized because i download so much stuff that it becomes hard to listen to any of it...and then ableton becomes my way of trying to rediscover something i really liked. that thing might remind me of another, a feeling or key or something. it's really fluid.   i like the idea of losing myself through sound. there's so much information online and it makes me feel like i don't exist in a really peaceful way. meditative, yet exhilarating.  at the end of everything, it feels like i've found myself again (also exhausting). my favorite aspect is layering too much until it barely recognizable.   old sound becomes new language, like i'm writing music with music."

1. What inspires you to mix/make music?
It's really fun to find patterns in the way we've expressed art over time, tracing the lineage of a sample or instrument, different methods people use. So I'm inspired by discovering how each person makes something theirs.

2. How has 2020 changed your relationship to music?
I'm thankful to be constantly surrounded by talented musicians but just realized that I could have a more active contribute to the community.
