Wa rahmatin lilladhi qad taba min zalali (And compassion for the one who turns away after his errors)
In the timeless time, before our time
When You called us forth to bear witness
Following the devout
I answered “Yes, without the shadow of a doubt”
Your Spoken Word, was what I’d heard
As I stumbled into wakefulness
As we gathered about
It stirred me within as it shook me without
And the years they passed till the day at last
I awoke with a cry – oh, the pain of severance!
And then I felt it again, and again
But there was a mercy that was hidden in the pain
Ravenous desire, a burning fire
Who am I to claim a share in deliverance?
I can always explain
But my time’s running out, and my guilt is plain
Oh One Who hears, the sound of tears
As they quench the thirst of the earth that I pray on
My Lord, forgive me
I have failed the covenant that I had taken on
Oh One Who sees, my arrogant knees
As they kiss the ground in the hopes of redemption

As I took the trust, on ruz-e-alast
The mountains quaked at the consequences
As I pledged to obey
The Earth cried over the ones who’ll go astray
As our ships set sail, and worldly veils
Sent us drifting to our distances
The mind did lose The Way
But the heart kept reminding of yesterday
Now here I am, a broken man
I’ve earned the fate that Your justice regulates
Dry, empty hands
Don’t stop the flow of the hourglass’ sand
Oh Free of Need, You have decreed
Your mercy descends on the one who supplicates
Raised, empty hands
Plead mercy, my Lord, plead a generous hand

رباه عفوك إني .. للنور مدت يداي
My Lord, I seek Your forgiveness. 
My hands have spread for Your light.

نزعت أسرار قلبي .. وجئت ألقي أساي 
I have pulled out the secrets of my heart
and I have come to show my grief.

وأشتكي طي صدري .. درباً سحيق العطايا 
I complain to you of my heart being twisted 
By a way (i.e. my life) that's full of cruelties.

به بدأت ولكن .. لم أدر ما منتهاي
I started with it but .. I don't know how it shall end.

لم أدر يأسي فيه .. ولا عرفت هداي 
I don't know of my hopelessness in this day, 
nor do I know whether I am guided.

ولا عرفت ظلامي .. ولا عرفت ضحاي
I don't even know my night or my day,

ولا لغيرك دوى يا رب يوما نداي
Nor do I invoked any one along with Oh my Lord.

إليك أنت صباحي مصفد في مساي 
Oh Lord! My morning is shackled up in my evening

فاسكب ضياءك إني .. ظمآن ضل صداي 
Place your light in mh heart, as I am thirsty [of guidance]

لم أدر من أي نبع .. أسقي جنين الركايا 
I don't know from which waterspout [i.e. how] .. can I water my strength? to a newly-found well [i.e. to find guidance]

والشط لا ماء فيه .. يطفي اللظى في حشايا 
And the beach has not enough water (i.e. no strength at the edge of life)
to extinguish the blaze in my heart. (i.e. to comfort my worry)

رحماك يا ربي اني .. وزورقي والخطايا 
I ask of your mercy, my Lord. 
I and my small boat, alongside with my sins

في لجة ليس فيها .. من الضياء بقايا 
are in tidal waves to which no light can reach.

جفت وغابت ولكن .. مازلت أسجي رجاي
are been dried up and disappeared, but .. I still quietly hope of your mercy.

في كلِّ أمرٍ مع الإخوانِ والصَّحبِ

يُضني فؤادي بأوجاعٍ يُكابِدُهـا

عجزًا بإيصالِهِ ماجاشَ في القلـبِ

يحيا وحيدًا هروبـا مـن تَعثُّـرِهِ

بينَ الخلائقِ في بيتٍ وفـي دربِ

يَنسلُّ منه هناءُ العمرِ في غضـبٍ

أنَّى استدارَ غزاهُ الدَّمعُ بالصَّـبِّ

ناشدتُكُمْ -بالذي يقضي بحكمتِـه

لهُ البلاءَ- بأن تلقـوَه بالرَّحـبِ

بلا امتهانٍ ولاجـرحٍ يعدِّبُهُ
