BIOGRAPHY of MUJAHID

He doesn't consider himself a rapper. Instead Mujahid Abdul Ali a.k.a. Kenny Bomer refers to himself as an MC, Political/Social Activist and Poet. His career began back in 1986 while attending Brazosport High School in Freeport, Texas located an hour south of Houston. At the age of eleven, he along with his younger brother were abandoned in Freeport by his parents. They lived alone in the streets for almost a year. Eventually they were placed into foster care at the Brazoria County Youth Home in Freeport where he would reside until a month after his eighteenth birthday. While attending high school Mujahid began to battle rap in the halls and gained allot of notoriety. Eventually he formed a group by the name of Def Squad with a couple of classmates and a coach at the school that used to DJ at parties and dances in the area. He and the two brothers wound up doing somewhat of an audition for the coach during an off period in the Coach’s History class. Having written a song titled, “Kingdom of Rhymes” which was the first structured song he had ever written, Mujahid and his two classmates who began calling themselves Def Squad gained the respect of the Coach and the four of them were on their way. "Our objective was to get Coach Burse to DJ for us. We also knew that he had friends that had a studio", Mujahid would reveal in an interview with Texas Monthly Magazine. " Of course after hearing us and seeing us lay it down at pep rallies and in the halls he was with it", he went on to say. But shortly after recording began the two brothers (Lee "Cool Lee" and Ricky Alston) began missing studio dates. On one of those occasions, Mujahid and the coach (Champ X) decided to proceed without them. "I remember the engineer telling us that night that we really didn't need those other guys", Mujahid revealed to Houston Press Magazine.   It was at that moment that the two became the group known as Def Squad. They wound up signing a record deal with a Houston Based company Mr. Henry Records which led to a larger deal with Ichiban Records as the first Rap Act ever signed to the label.   Def Squad's first album, "Hard Hittin'" was an instant success in the Southern Region of the US.  Def Squad released its first Single from that album with the release of the Hit Single and video for, "Love Is Blind" in 1989. The flip side of that single, "Hardcore Hip-Hop" actually received significant radio play years later and still see's rotation on Internet Radio. The video "Love Is Blind” was in regular rotation on BET as well as various other video programs around the nation for nearly a year.   While riding high on the success of their first single Def Squad began touring with Kid Frost, Bobby Jimmy, and 2 Live Crew just to name a few. They were often seen in the company of Rap Legends such as Public Enemy, RUN-DMC, LL Cool J, 3rd Base, Ghetto Boys, Big Daddy Kane, De La Soul and many more. Def Squad won the title of "Best Rap Act" two years in a row (91 & 92) in the Houston Press Music Awards. They received significant radio play on college radio and began to work on their new album, "Countdown to the Year 2000". That album being far different than the first was very political and message oriented. 
During the recording of that album Champ X became a member of the Nation of Islam and actually gave Mujahid who at the time still used the stage name KB, his first Quran which he began to read constantly. Eventually he converted to Islam and changed his name to Mujahid Abdul Ali. Unfortunately the two began to see Islam differently and began to debate about the religion. Champ X became a member of The Nation of Islam which is Pro-Black and does not allow Muslims of any race other than Black to attend their Mosques whereas Mujahid followed the Quran and it's teachings that Islam like God is non-discriminating. The two although remaining lifelong friends drifted apart for a time and the success of Def Squad came to an end. 
After being out of the lime light for about a year Mujahid began purchasing studio equipment and began producing tracks and recording many different artists. He methodically handpicked those whom he seen as talented and created a new group, Hit Squad. They were an instant success and quickly gained notoriety in the South. Hit Squad led by Mujahid began touring with various artists such as Lil Flip, UGK, Eightball & MJG, 2 Live Crew (Mujahid's 2nd encounter with them) South Park Mexican and many more. They were touring and working on the album, "Revolution", setting up In-Store tour dates and had a tour planned with Three 6 Mafia, and Lil Kim. All of the promotion and nationwide distribution for the album was in place. It was obvious that Mujahid was the seasoned star of the group for not only his delivery but his ability to captivate an audience. Other members felt as though they were not getting the recognition they deserved and tension within the group had Hit Squad meeting the same demise as Def Squad just a few years before. 
Mujahid went on to sign a solo deal with King B Music and released an underground Album titled "Phaze 1" that sold almost 35,000 copies on the streets. He also began work on the album, "Conspiracy Theory". The artwork for the cover was complete and mastering of the album was well underway when family issues ended Mujahid's solo venture as he found himself bound for Florida in an effort to keep his family together. He did not return to Texas for over a year and lost his deal with King B Music. 
Mujahid is currently working on a new Rap album titled, “TOP SECRET” and an R&B album titled, “My Place”.   He is also working on publishing a book of poetry that deals with Social and Political issues as well as Religion and a variety of other topics as he pursues his dream of Public Speaking. His latest material can be found on Hustlin’ to Tha' Top’s albums, “Back In The Kitchen” and “Tha’ Takeover” where he was a highly sought after featured artist.
