London-based record label Planetary Notions launches into the unknown next week with their debut release coming from exciting new prospect Joe Rolét. Formed by a group of like-minded individuals, all with a musical background, the label blends the groups passion for bass-laced custom-built club music with a strictly vinyl format.

Today we premiere the lead track from the label's debut EP and 'Green Aid' is a cosmic-house roller, one that infuses house features with bumping builds and epic drops. As far as label launches go, they don't get much bigger and we're sure that Planetary Notions will soon be name you'r all very familiar with.

Coming direct from Frankfurt, the fourth EP on the excellent Konfus label is another exquisite example of deep electronic music, excellently produced while aimed squarely at the dancefloor. A joint effort from Matthias Schildger & Rupert Hartick, it showcases real class in sound and execution throughout.

The opener comes under the artist name CNTRL, with the title of 'Lose Control' and it's a fantastic percussive groove, landing a little in the minimal camp in terms of clicky percs, but incredibly deep too, with an off-beat drum pattern and a bassline which is so low that it feels as if it's below you, rather than coming through the speakers. Subtle pads sit softly in the background, just clear enough to work like an audio glue holding the sounds together in unison, before a closing section to the track where the beats vanish and a metallic vocal reminds us that 'music makes you lose control'. For any DJ who claims to dig the deeper sounds, this is simply so good that you MUST check it out and add it to your collection.    
           
Rupert Hartick delivers the first of his two tracks on the EP with 'No Flash', which is the A2 cut. Another for the trippy sets, this builds around hollow metallic delayed percussive elements, a subby bassline running through the track, all the while the zappy FX sounds work in and around the drums. Perhaps a good description for this track would be a 'linker', one for the DJs who play for several hours and especially into the early hours, where tracks like this come into their own, providing a bridge between the tougher parts of your set, giving some space but keeping things moving in a superbly spacey fashion.

Onto the B-side and Matthias, simply calling himself M.S., brings us 'Tranceparents'. Fear not that this is anything akin to 'trance' of the late 90s/early 00s style, the word trance is perfect to describe the mood here. The tracks drums shuffle and sway, the bassline flows wonderfully and the synths and pads slink through the track as it builds. Added snares give the vibe a real urgency, but this retains a 'heads down, hips grooving' flow, all the while making your head woozy with delight. As with the two cuts on the A-side, this is one for the real deep DJs and clubbers alike.

For Rupert's second track on the EP, which rounds off this brilliant 12", he layers the sounds for 'Tribal Tool'. As one would expect, the focus is on the drums, but with the added bonus of wobbly bass action and some delayed FX which rise and pan throughout the track. If getting your dancefloor locked in to a groove is how you like to play, then this track is 100% for you. The main spacey perc continues throughout the track, the volume altering as it moves through the speakers, inaudible vocals being used almost as FX, all adding to the groove. And what a groove! Deep heads, you need this EP in your lives, that's an order.

The period of infancy for record labels is often their most definitive. It sets the standard for whats to come, which means there must come a certain degree of quality and precision. Planetary Notions are the London based imprint kicking out divine cosmic techno with just that quality, style and attention to detail needed to launch the label on the path of longevity. The space-themed vinyl-only team had their first release from London-based producer Joe Rolét last April, and just over a year later, the man returns with another slice of rolling tech goodness. Planetary notions 002 kicks off with the galactic Glacier Way and is backed by the deep delight that is Pace Trader. Straight out of the Ukraine comes iO (Mulen) AKA Aleksandr Voznichenko, a man whose back catalogue includes releases on labels such as Rejected, Eklectisch and Area Remote to name but a few. Now he links up with one of Paris’ premier labels, run by one of Paris’ premier crews – Apollonia. With one solid track and a classy remix from Danish young gun Malin Génie, this is another surefire winner from Apollonia. ‘To The Unknown’ kicks things off with a steady build up. Shrouded in a hazy mist it draws you to its understated groove, iO turns in a very considered production that evolves at a slow yet utterly gripping pace. The energy levels rise like the tide of the ocean, engulfing you before you know it. iO’s dexterity and cunning ability to keep the listener engaged manifests itself here, bomb! On the flip side, Malin Genie steps in to give ‘To The Unknown’ a new lick of paint and what we get is a jazzy, minimal rework with a jaunty skip in its step and a wicked bassline.

Sepp is one of the many next-generation Romanian’s paving their way into the record collections of selectors across Europe. Since releasing his debut album on Uvar, the label he runs with Nu Zau, Sepp has grown both as a DJ and a producer and has become an emerging name within the scene.

The talented Romanian now debuts on Frankfurt label RAWAX with a two-track EP titled ‘Ritm Timpan’. A-side ‘Nilut’ is one of the most anticipated tracks of the summer. Ever since it got its first play at Sunwaves 23 in April by Raresh (during RPR’s B2B) and Petre Inspirescu (Stage 4, solo) minimal fans have been waiting for this one to drop.

Nilut is a prime example of how the minimal sound is evolving. Tightly arranged drum patterns dominate the first five minutes with tantalising synths teased throughout. A minute later, the drums and the synths come together as the track explodes to another level of euphoria. The long buildup is well worth the wait as the dreamy soundscapes feel like they are drifting from side-to-side.

B-side Tevoim follows the same trip. This one has that peak time dance floor feel to it, with the drums leading the way.
