Peaceful ambient explorations from Multicast Dynamics aka Samuel van Dijk. We had the privilege to host him at our party where he did the closing duties. It was a beautiful morning. 

His music comes under a number of different aliases (VC-118A, Mohlao). Each one takes listeners through a world rich in detailed sound designs, and whether served up as a dynamic live show or tightly woven DJ set, it is best heard in dark and cosy environments.

Samuel van Dijk is a Dutch electronic music producer and DJ who explores contrasts in his music, blending genres like electro, techno, dub, and ambient. Under his aliases - VC-118A, Mohlao (@mohlao), and Multicast Dynamics (@multicastdynamics) -he creates immersive soundscapes that move from outer space to oceanic depths. His modular approach to live performances allows him to shift from energetic breakbeats to abstract, textured soundscapes. With releases on respected labels such as Delsin and Frustrated Funk, van Dijk's work is known for its melancholic moods and deeply absorbing grooves, whether in clubs or experimental settings. His sets range from gritty techno and futuristic electro to atmospheric ambient, always delivering emotionally rich experiences.

..A lucid dream is a dream in which a person becomes aware that he or she is dreaming and it becomes quite different from an ordinary dream.  For one thing It can be strikingly realistic to the point of producing a convincing replica of the normal physical world and for another it has its own psychological characteristics and range of emotional reactions which have to be considered independently of these experienced in normal dreaming..."

In the late 1960s, psychologists Celia Green and Charles McCreery published Lucid Dreams, a study exploring the paradox of consciousness during sleep, describing the possibility of conscious perception in dreams, often involving out-of-body experiences and hallucinations. Later, in the mid-90s, the UK ambient label EM:T released a minimalist ambient masterpiece titled Lucid Dreams, featuring texts and narration by Celia Green. Thanks to Astral Industries, this forgotten gem was reissued on vinyl a few years ago, in a deluxe edition with illustrations by the renowned Theo Ellsworth.

Several lucid dream sessions have been held by candlelight, featuring guests such as Ario, Camu, Coeval, Doozer, F-on, JL Maire, Urtzi, Patrick Russell, Vicki Siolos, SUNA, and most recently, Multicast Dynamics.

Multicast Dynamics aka Samuel van Dijk delivered this much expected mix to us in the beginning of Spring. This mix took us a long time to listen repeatedly, from the moment it starts to the end, we were deeply indulged in the dreamlike whirls. Such feeling lingers apart from the change of the surrounding, it even strengthens with intense stimulation. His music is rich with levels of creativity, and there are also entrances and exits; it doesn’t lose itself because the change of the environment. Samuel van Dijk is fascinated by contrasts. He explores the rough and the smooth, the loud and the quiet, the cerebral and the visceral in aquatic and naturalistic worlds where electro, techno, dub and ambient are blurred into one. This means that as both a producer and comprehensive live act, the Dutchman can take you from the furthest reaches of outer space to the depths of an oceanic abyss via crackling and frozen tundras. He does so under three aliases—VC-118A, Mohlao, Multicast Dynamics, but all are interconnected and related, with a modular approach to making and performing music meaning that a pumping breakbeat live-set can easily be transformed into an abstract sonic landscape by reducing and modifying elements, playing with textures and reworking structures.

Known by electronic music obsessives as one of electro’s shining lights, the last decade has seen van Dijk excel in both EP and LP format. His achingly beautiful melancholic moods and roomy, absorbing grooves are so fully realised that they work well beyond the club context and have come on top labels like Delsin, Frustrated Funk and Silent Season amongst others. They include highlights like the tension between raw machine sounds and ethereal pads that were explored on VC-118A’s underground classic Vaxna; Shift Register, which was made from largely one-take hardware jams with an instinctive and lo-fi finish, and the slow burning techno of Mohlao’s Landforms LP. Of course, his Multicast Dynamics album quadrilogy on Denovali also laid out immersive ambient worlds in truly escapist ways.

His thrilling sets of guttural and gritty techno, futuristic electro or cathartic ambient are hugely immersive and always emotional, and take him pumping out a peak time festival set, to twisting you inside out with an intimate session in a cosy club or playing an experimental soundscape set in more thought provoking settings with his own avant garde visuals. Whatever he does, though, dance floor experiences are rarely as immersive and emotional as those crafted by this multifaceted artist.
