"My past year has taken me on some incredible trips to places I never dreamed I'd visit. But at the end of every jaunt I look forward to returning home to Toronto. For me personally, having roots in the city I cut my teeth in as a DJ is super important. On a bigger scale, it is paramount that I rep my city in my work as a DJ and producer and future label-owner. There is so much incredible music being made by folks in my city on cracked copies of Ableton or carefully-curated collections of gear acquired through exhausting 9-5 jobs. But compared to other scenes, we lack platforms and labels to showcase some of this work. Due to any number of reasons such as geography, lack of industry connections, and general ignorance about our scene, artists struggle to find a place to put their music out, and many often end up self-releasing rather than send demos out to European labels who ignore them. This mix is for them. It is my hope that through mine & others' efforts more DIY dance labels will sprout up in our city and that labels in other parts of the world will pay attention to my home."

Donald Rumsfeld once famously quipped that in life there are "known unknowns and unknown unknowns".  Well, allow me to be just a tad Rumsfeldian here and argue that in electronic music there are tracks that are "predictably mind bending" and "unpredictably mind bending".  Predictably mind bending music aims to confuse and dislodge the listener, but does it so formulaically that you could almost see the artist behind the proverbial curtain, sweating and toiling in their attempts to manipulate.  At best, it feels like an etude, but, more often, it feels forced, flat and leaves one with a headache rather than a bent mind.   

J.Albert's Paradolia firmly belongs to the other category of music: unpredictably mind bending.  You don’t see the man behind the curtain, you don’t glean any discernible formula or attempts at listener manipulation: you just hear a track that is wonderfully chaotic, full of textures, broken rhythms, and intermittent dubby explorations.  It's a hot mess with alternating focal points and shifting emphasis that somehow manages to build momentum and propel itself forward while never resorting to the banal or traditional.  It's orchestrated chaos.  Mind bent.  No headache.

My closest friends know, that I've been into HipHop and relative genres since my early teenage years. So ofc I needed to have some sort of set in my feed.

This time we got HOT WLAN as our guest. She started mixing back in 2013. First occasionally, but over time she digged more and more stuff she loves like HipHop, RnB, Trap and sometimes Disco Funk, Jazz or Ghetto House. In 2017 she begun to play at clubs regulary and is currently working on a livingroomconcert project with her friends.
