Progressive mastermind MULYA had a serious basis for compositions already as a child. With a father who’s an opera conductor your destiny’s written. Piano and solfeggio lessons formed our man’s life till his early adulthood. Blew by the wind of progressive house movement MULYA dig deep into harmonies and melodies around the late 2000’s. Keeping the flow of rolling synth lines and complex productions he stepped out with his first EP ”Marvin” at the perfect moment on MoBlack Records. The tune was played by a wide range of A list artists from different genres and created a huge wave through the summer of 2017. The promising start followed by a brilliant three-tracker at Super Flu’s Monaberry, which still sounds like a message from future galaxies at the end of 2018. Remixes for Animal Trainer, Sabb, EP at Bog’s Atlant and another EP at Lehar’s own Multinotes shows clearly that “Marvin” was more than just a lightning in the summer storm. So don’t expect less than heavy drums, accurate production and deep vibes from the man behind the name MULYA.

Based in Budapest, Hungarian artist Mulya brings an inventive approach to his brand of electronic composition. Throughout his varied discography, he touches on disparate themes and sounds, straddling a divide between intergalactic design and indie-inspired beats, often mixing both into one amorphous, unclassifiable sound of his own. As a favourite of Ame, Dixon, Fideles, Frankey & Sandrino, Innellea, Trikk and more, Mulya made his microcastle debut in July of 2020 with ‘Chrome Extra’. The five-track showcase was a prime example of the Hungarian’s creative attitude, ultimately leading to 2021 projects via Innervisions, TAU and his own Complaint Kulture imprint. Now, following the release of his second microcastle project 'REM', Mulya delivers some fresh selections for the second edition of our mix series. Enjoy.

Opening 2024 at Complaint Kulture with style I've asked @mulyamusic if he has some unfinished projects laying on his Lacie drive and I was lucky to receive two mediocre tracks launching our year nicely.

"Dark Idols" is a totally suitable choice for these gloomy autumn days. Deep, hypnotic and chemically clean sound design flavored with free samples from Splice. A perfect representation of business melodic of the moment.

Hello Complainants,

Opening 2024 at Complaint Kulture with style I've asked @mulyamusic if he has some unfinished projects laying on his Lacie drive and I was lucky to receive two mediocre tracks launching our year nicely.

The second track called ,,Shuffled". I can hardly say too much about it, really strange, semi-annoying but can be digested after some listens. As long as MULYA gives his best music to other labels its an acceptable one. The glass is half empty.

Opa knows best…

Every now and again the good folk at Monaberry invite their eldest family chief, Grandpa Herbert, around for a spiritual sonic powwow. A chance to galvanise the forces and energies that have become the label’s signature over the years, these collections have become a Monaberry tradition. And this is its seventh…

Label founders Super Flu take the lead with ‘Bebey Love 1’; a mystic moment of deep desert hypnosis, calling and responding to its own momentum. It’s followed by ‘Handmade’, a spiralling, foot-stamping tribal slice of cosmosis from new friend and MoBlack affiliate Sobek. Deeper again we strike ‘Urban Linien’ from label lifer CIOZ; a hip-slinking late night narrative laced with deep dreams and psychedelic flourishes, things take a serious level-up from four minutes in.

Chapter 24 associate JOBE follows with a similarly lavish yarn ‘Maasai’. Subtly theatrical and laced with nuances of dark bass and a restrained sense of theatre, it’s doesn’t so much as grab your attention but arrests it and gives it a life sentence. He’s followed by old Monaberry flame Ole Biege who brings the ‘Heat’ in every sense. Strutting on a sweet shuffle and gently paced with beautiful piano chords and a sultry vocal, its borderline spiritual in its allure and sets us up perfectly for brick-talking MULYA who makes a swift return from his recent label debut with the moody marching safari ‘Hamune’.

Finally Bebetta and Douglas Greed bring this life-affirming chapter to an end. The former delivers a stunning slab of subversion in the form of ‘Gattara’ which balances spine-melting arpeggios and warm, bouncy bass. The latter takes us right back to the source with ‘Arpo33’, a trance-tinged hair-raiser that’s powered by a cathedral-like lead that doesn’t promise new dimensions… It guarantees them.

Eight inspiring journeyman adventures from eight of Monaberry’s firmest friends and most kindred spirits. No one picks them like Opa Herbert. Less old school, more vintage university, it’s detailed excursions like these that keep the old timer alive. Long may they continue…
