I had been working on this piece when our beloved cat, Tobi, suddenly passed away. A few days before, he had started to fade, but we didn't realize it would happen so quickly in the end.

I was playing my guitar, searching for harmonic notes while he sat in front of me. It made me sad to see that he was in his twilight days. In response, I played my arpeggio in reverse, so it sounded like falling rain.

By the time I finished working on the guitar piece, Tobi had sadly already passed away. I wanted to find a Buddhist chant for animals to help him cross to the other shore. I discovered that "Om Mani Padme Hum," meaning "Jewel in the Lotus," could be used to assist both animals and humans in planting the seeds of practice for their next lifetime. This beautiful chant also helps with the process of grief after losing loved ones, guiding them as they cross to the other shore. "Om Mani Padme Hum" is widely recognized as a Tibetan Buddhist mantra, often associated with Avalokiteśvara, the Bodhisattva of compassion. 

The ending felt like a way to send him off and into the light.

Each of the six syllables carries a unique quality and meaning.

With a very precious prayer I present to you a version of a Lakota inspired 'Good Morning' song that celebrates and expresses the desire to live and be alive, and gives gratitude to the water, medicines, the heart and to life.'


Lovingly Written and shared by a dear sister and beautiful medicine woman called Stephanie Kersley. Thanking her beauty for birthing this song, the pure prayer from which it came from. Thanking her for her walk and inspiration to me.

Every time I sing this song I think of her and remember her and am grateful.
Sharing it here because I know many people want to learn this beautiful expression of gratitude. 

May that we carry this in honour to the spirit who bought it forth. In the deepest bowing to the Lakota Native American people whose ways reminds us to remember our nativeness and stand clear in  the truth of why we have come here. My deepest respect to the ancient lineages of this world and their sacred understanding of Life.
