Appealing to trappers and backpackers can be a bit of a foreign concept for an undrafted MC. But Chicago’s native son, Jermaine “Murj HOSS” Richardson has been on the grind in the rap game for a minute. Coming out of the Windy City’s infamous Westside, Murj has grown to be one of Chi-Town’s most reversed MC’s.

Fast forward to 2010, in an era where rap is replete with anthems for hustlers, ballers and bosses, Murj was looking to change that. So in a stroke of musical benevolence, he focused his efforts on an offering as concerns manifested themselves with the release of his mixtape, “Redemption”. Shortly after the release, Jermaine decided to take some time off to focus on his faith and family. 
 
After his furlough, Murj’s ascension had nothing to do with luck, as he resumed back on his post with his mixtape offering, “Epiphany in the Metropolis” in 2014. With decisive confidence and lyrical bravado, pooled with annexing awareness and thoughtfulness, Murj aspired to etch out his own place in the music industry and continued to work on his unique sound that has proved impossible for the game to ignore.
 While being blessed with versatility and a combination of self-perceptive wit and lyrical skill, Murj is attempting to lead the lights of a burgeoning rap movement that feels inappropriate to categorize, but referring to him as a hip hop artist may be the face-lift the genre has long needed. The anticipation has been building since dropping his promo socially-conscious outcry video, “No Justice, No Peace”, which is helping to build his online presence. 
 
Mononymously known as HOSS, the Illinois native is helping redefine his city’s music scene, and more importantly, he’s an artist that uses his gift to lift spirits, touch lives and give truth to those willing to listen. He wears his heart on his sleeve with socially conscious lyrics that appeal to a broad demographic without sounding emo---instead he comes off highly relatable. With hopes of one day raising the bar while caring for the culture, HOSS is taking risks and molding his own style, while honing in on a major transition while crafting and steadily molding his debut EP which will see a late 2015 release. Murj HOSS has always been one to embrace the non-traditional, and with each output he’s further distinguished himself within the hip hop community as an outlying---yet essential---entity.
