Originally born in New Zealand, Hugo Barritt now resides in Berlin embellishing the city as a playground for exploring his musical passions. During the last few years Hugo has spent his time committed to the studio with impressive outcomes, beginning with three releases on Vitalik Recordings, the "We Love Space" compilation, the ‘Merkaba EP’, backed with remixes by Pezzner and Ethyl and the more notably the ‘Kontrol EP’.

2015 see’s the fruits of Hugo’s recent studio sessions take shape. The first is a track on CONSTRUCT’s first CLTD Vinyl EP series, alongside Sam Russo’s new Stratowerx guise, Water Walk andWilliam Welt. In May he’ll release a new 3 track EP for No Fit State, in June the ’NYC Cougar' EP for Vitalik and a new track for Nordik Net featuring remixes from Sascha Dive and Jack Wickham, and in July a track on the new Alma Soul split EP alongside Matthias Vogt, Martin Patino and Hans Thalau.

The Nocturne EP is two new and original cuts from Yoram himself, with a swashbuckling remix from a great new talent. 

The self-titled lead track Nocturne is a whirling combination of euphoria and jolting synths, the mix just right for the night, or even those cruising drives on long dark roads. While Discomposed does exactly what it says on the tin, derailing original thoughts and giving us a new composition through its sturdy rhythm, chipping away at the preconceived as if flows...

And with his first appearance on Crossfrontier Audio, we welcome Modd. In just short of a year, and in his relatively young career, the DJ and producer has managed to rock-steady with some quality releases on labels that might just ring bells, such as Kindisch and Anjunadeep... now it’s his time to turn Nocturne upside down, and the results of which are floating whirs of excitement riding through on his twist of the original. A fitting moment for a debut.

This June will see Bondage Music release part two of it’s ‘Home (Remixes)’ package, welcoming an array of artists to remix Mihai Popoviciu’s recent long player on the label. Following on from Part 1 of the package which has already garnered support from the likes of Huxley, Neverdogs, Emanuel Satie and Mat.Joe to name but a few, Bondage Music returns with the second offering in this four part series. Tuccillo takes the lead with his interpretation of ‘Focus’, and as always from the Ibiza-based Unblock music founder we’re treated to intricately programmed, smooth and hypnotic material laid out over seven and a half minutes with a deftly unfolding dynamic feel. El Mundo’s take on ‘Triumph’ follows, dropping the tempo and instilling a Latin edge to things via organic percussion, emotive strings and mystical vocals. Frankfurt’s Sascha Dive then offers up his ‘Atmospheric Dub’ of ‘Music 999’ to open the flip side, as the name would suggest shining light on billowing dub stabs, ethereal atmospheres and robust rhythms before Kevin Yost closes the package with his percussive driven ‘Hynposia’ remix.

murmur / nofitstate boss Geddes gets set to unleash his first full release after a three year break – and it’s definitely been worth the wait! A techy trip of solid and seamless grooves with a mischievous streak, ‘Inner City Man EP’ on murmur’s sub-label nofitstate is set to slay the dance floor at the dawn of a very promising year for one of London’s underground heroes.
A-side ‘Controversy’ gets to work with its driving bassline and techno strut, while prominent claps keep the pace and subtly haunting sirens course throughout. Grumbling, rounded chords and melodic pads add a modern and intriguing spin while its bass heavy bounce make ‘Controversy’ a masterful peak time killer.
Over on the B-side, ‘Soul Of Real’ is a smooth journey into the deep with organic raw claps and quirky melodic twists. Chain clinks and shakes lock tight in the gritty groove, while mechanic screws sit randomly within the intricate rhythms and progressions. Vocal snippets, smooth synths and a powerful break down add that extra touch.
Wrapping up the hat trick, ‘Uncanny’ is a flawlessly smooth fluid groove with slick shooting synths and quirky step. The muffled vocal intercepts in multiple layers while an epic breakdown into dubby waters soon explodes back into the effortless groove and another assured assault on the dancefloor.
With plans to take murmur and nofitstate to the next level, this precisely composed package from Geddes is the ideal way to kick start the year. As well as the labels and parties moving from strength to strength, Geddes as an artist is finally receiving the recognition he deserves. With a highly sought after remix of Gavin Herlihy’s ‘Tell Me What You Need’ on Culprit, an exclusive track soon to be released on Steve Bug’s new compilation and a mulletover compilation due out in April, Stuart Geddes is certainly a man to keep a close eye on.
