The first half of the original audiobook of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, read by Stephen Moore. I got this for Christmas on a set of audio cassettes in the early 80s and played it to death. I think it's the seminal version, much better than the radio or TV versions - Stephen Moore just has the perfect voice; guess it helps that this was the first version I ever heard after I had read the books, and he just seemed to nail every character perfectly, especially Dentarthurdent. I think  that like many books and scripts, it actually works better with a single reader, rather than a cast - I guess I've never been the greatest fan of radio plays anyway...

I looked for years for it after the tapes got lost in a house move (I think) but with no success - I just kept finding the radio version. Then, in 2011 I was watching a repeat of one of the new Dr Who and one of the (heavily prostheticisesd) aliens spoke in a voice that, even after more than 20 years, I RECOGNISED INSTANTLY AS THE VOICE OF THE GUIDE. I paused and rewound the playback (thank goodness for iPlayer) then the credits, and identified the actor as one Stephen Moore - voice of Marvin from the original radio series, AHAH!! From there it was only a matter of Googling. And here it is in its glory.
