The much-loved Balearic Biscuits-series from Music For Dreams is being revived for a fourth edition, gathering a new batch of eccentric balearica from the label’s recent catalogue.

The Balearic style is a famously elusive one, born from eclectic tastes converging on a utopian idea. Different styles orbiting the same principle: forget the rules and just have a good time.

For those following the Music For Dreams label, not a wholly unfamiliar dictum. And on that note, let’s break open this Balearic Biscuits Vol. 4 and have a look inside.

The compilation runs 18 tracks long and covers both the downtempo and dancefloor domains along with everything in between. As far as classic chill-out vibes go, there’s Ambala’s ‘Amor Bailar’ or Pepe Link’s ‘Vem Menina’ or islandman’s remix of Dj Pippi & Willie Graff’s ‘Piel A Piel’, all donning different local flavors. Copenema’s ‘Can’t Sleep’ and ‘Ogum’ by Visti’s Vinyl Collective both extend to Latin American ground while Wille’s ‘Bilancia Vero’ and CheapEdits’ ‘Cozmika’ lean towards 80’s Italo Disco territory.

Tolga Böyük & Kenneth Bager’s ’Re-arrange Your Face’ and Pete Blaker’s reworking of Rheinzand’s ‘Love Games’ show a sterner side of things, while Gerd Janson’s remix of Islandman’s ‘Aku Membawa’, Valentin Huedo’s ‘In The Jungle’ or WALTHER & OliO’s tracks are mainroom house moments.

‘Sunshine in Atalaya’ is the second single from the project. A warm, lovelorn piece of soul-pop written by Jonas Visti and his partner and fellow musician, Emma Sehested Høeg. A lavish mix of guitars, flute and Würlitzer piano set the backdrop for Høeg’s dreamily waltzing vocals, musing on the thrills of summer love.
 
The main man behind the collective is Danish musician, DJ and radio host Jonas Visti, known for his dissemination of global jazz, funk and rock, particular from the southern hemisphere, through his show Visti’s Vinyls on Danish public radio P8.
 
Visti’s Vinyl Collective is comprised of musicians from the Danish jazz scene who collaborate with special guests from South America and Africa. Musically, the project is a creative extension of his radio show: not really bound by genre or conventions but by an easy-going, warm, colorful sensibility and an ethos focused on the collective functions of music.

The debut album from Ibiza-based DJ and producer Valentin Huedo is set to come out on July 26 on Music For Dreams.

The Escape comprises ten tracks covering a terrain from lush melodic downtempo and Balearic techno to punchy, exotic deep house—various styles and moods collected by Huedo through his residencies at Café del Mar, Blue Marlin, Ibiza Sonica and WooMoon. “From sunsets to dancefloors,” as Huedo describes it himself.
 
The music has been produced in close collaboration with producers and musicians in the orbit of Copenhagen-based label Music For Dreams, among them pianist and composer Troels Hammer, guitarist Jonas Krag/Santino Surfers, producers Walther & OliO, Kenneth Bager and DJ Disse.
 
Huedo is born and raised on Ibiza. Growing up surrounded by The White Isle’s rich culture of electronic music, he quickly became interested in the scene and went on to become the youngest ever DJ to play at the legendary Café Del Mar. After a ten year residency at Café Del Mar, he became a resident DJ at the infamous Blue Marlin beach club. In 2016, he went on to Ibiza’s WooMooN, at which point he also began producing his own material. A track found its way to Ibiza luminary Kenneth Bager, whose label Music For Dreams took Huedo on.
 
Now, Music For Dreams are proud to be able to share Valentin Huedo’s debut album with the world. A record teeming with radiant and infectious electronic music, carrying the footprints of a remarkable 20-year deejaying career.

Two masters of the Danish scene, Mikkel Nordsø and Ole Theill have been around since the late 70’s. What connects them is a lifelong commitment to their craft. Theill as a tablaist, who journeyed to India to study under tabla master Ishwar Lal Mishra. Nordsø as a guitarist whose abilities extend to the sitar, the oud, the n’goni and more.
 
Sea View continues where the first three albums left off, incorporating new world-spanning influences in a suave, shapeshifting sound. Each song is a meandering dialogue between Nordsø (melody) and Theill (rhythm), blooming and intensifying with instrumental splendor before resolving in gentle waves. Two tracks (‘Sea View’ and ‘Beam Me Up’) introduce a third interlocuter, the jazz vocalist Carolina Franceska.
 
A work of rare musical fluency with two lifetimes of instrumental wisdom behind it.

On their first album as an actual duo, the Gent-based musicians Charlotte Caluwaerts and Reinhard Vanbergen present an ambitious suite of elegant instrument-driven pop songs, parsing through the sins and virtues of our increasingly stumbling world.
 
Waltzing string-arrangements, synth arpeggios, jangling guitars, and ethereal vocals mingle and unfurl through the album’s ten tracks, arranged with both lightness and depth. Owing to the duo’s diy-styled approach and rare multi-instrumentalist craft, the result is a pop album that doesn’t quite sound like anything else out there.
 
The album is fully written and produced by Caluwarts and Vanbergen. It features performances by drummer Gert Malfliet and strings by the quartet of Saartje Demuynck, Aya Pribilovskaya, Marie-Katrien Devos Bouts and Joanna Vlaeminck. Everything else is performed by the duo.  
 
The duo (and real-life couple!) have worked together in over a decade, releasing music under bands The Happy and Rheinzand, while also collaborating on Vanbergen’s solo material.

Boogie Rookie has been a regular fixture at Copenhagen nightclubs such as Cecil AM, Jolene, Baggen, Natbar etc and played at festivals such as Distortion, Heartland, Karrusel and Roskilde. Now he has moved into another field and released a retro disco-rock track produced together with another figure in Danish Nu-disco - Vinnie Who.

"First and foremost, I tried to make a track that would fit into my own DJ set. A mix of Boney M and Happy Mondays with a twist of Chicago house and italo. And in all humility, I think I have succeeded. I've secretly tested the number at clubs and festivals over the summer, and it's going surprisingly well!” he says.

The track will be released on November 8 via Copenhagen's Music For Dreams label,. Boogie Rookie will play it live at a midnight release concert at Hotel Cecil and where his co-producer Vinnie Who will also play live for the first time in eight years.

Pete has sonically re-furbished the tracks getting the band to do new instrumental layers and vocal dubs to enrich his versions to recreate a totally new take on the songs. With Pete leading the way in his production style, showcasing another side to his skills than his traditional disco edits which we know & love. The Album flows through different electronic frequencies taking the listener on an unparalleled journey into another dimension.

Pete says “Back in 2021 I was asked to remix a track for Rheinzand (Strange World). I couldn't imagine that we would have had a whole remix album that would eventually be released on vinyl. This journey was a new, overwhelming, frightening but beautiful experience for me. I had never done something like this. I didn't have the experience and knowledge at that time. I only had one night a week of studio time and 10 months of time. And here we are, I can certainly say – anything is possible".

Visti’s Vinyl Collective is the moniker of Danish musician and radio host Jonas Visti’s new project, whose stated mission is warm, melodic pop music between friends (and selected musicians from the international scene).
 
With a stellar cast from the Danish jazz scene and a close collaboration with his pal, producer and electronic artist William ‘Wille’ Winding, Visti is building up to a debut album for Copenhagen-based imprint Music For Dreams.
 
The newest track from the collective is ‘Fly Away’, a true ballad in 80’s electronic style: bubbly, dreamy, lovey – complete with classic hooks and synth magic.
 
‘Fly Away’ is produced in collaboration with William ‘Wille’ Winding’. Danish musician Emma Sehested Høeg delivers the sweet love-soaked vocals.

Anna Domino joins Kenneth Bager & Findlay Brown on luminous art pop single

The cult pop singer conjures a spectral drama from the track’s halcyon production, wreathing the warm pads and joyful strings in the cosmic myth of Eurydice and Orpheus.
 
‘Don’t Look Back (Eurydice)’ will feature on Bager’s collaborative album with singer-songwriter Findlay Brown, set to come out in 2025. Brown’s vocals feature on the track as well, merging with the gauzy threads of Domino’s voice.
 
The collaboration has its own musical wellspring. Domino’s synth pop of the 80’s is a particularly revered item in the Balearic canon, which Bager – the veteran dj, producer and compiler – has played his part in assembling.
 
Anna Domino says about the song:
 
“When I heard the music Kenneth sent me, it suggested the feeling of a really good high.
 
What the lyrics describe is the seductive dream that a drug can provide - the genuine joy at being in a beautiful place that just happens to be hell. The question becomes - how do you find your way back home from such a nightmare.
 
So it is a story about Eurydice and her decision to leave the underworld. She speaks to Orpheus of her fascination and fear of the place as she leads him through it.
 
When I was a child, I saw the movie Black Orpheus and it broke my small heart. The power of that film has never left me.”

A foreword from the artist:
 
A carousel symbolizes childhood, joy and innocence. It also symbolizes the cyclical nature of life and the inevitable passing of time. In the moment I find myself, these swings of nostalgia for my childhood are to be expected.
 
Of these nostalgic moments, one of the clearest images is of the annual festivals in my hometown where I spent hours on the merry-go-round that was installed outside the door of my grandparents’ house. The workers at the merry-go-round connected everything to the sockets in my grandparents’ house. In exchange, I could enjoy it without limit.
 
I loved riding each of its elements (horses, cars, elephants etc.) and in each of them I imagined many stories. These memories have been the inspiration for this second album, with which I reinterpret the different feelings that have awakened in me in the form of music.
 
From these emotions of longing  comes this album with the title Carrusel De Sentimientos.
 
To capture all this I have counted on a lot of talents without which this album would not have been possible. Some of them were already present in the first album, such as Melón Jiménez, Santino Surfers, Tupac Peralta, Olio, The Swan And The Lake… and new collaborations such as Romana Alarcón, Marta Chandra, Akinsola, Andrea Kamenar, Cecilia Abularach and Russ Farelo.
 
As always, thanks to Kenneth Bager and Jon Tattersall for believing in me and giving me all the support and empowerment, to AnnaLea for her hospitality and wholehearted support, to Anders Ponsaing for his hospitality, all the engineering, mixing and post production work and of course, to the entire MFD family for everything we lived together and I learn from them.
 
To my parents and my sister as always for believing in me and lastly, to my sun and moon Russ Farelo for always being by my side. You and I until the end!

Legendary Ibiza Dj Pippi as one of the very first Ibiza residents he managed to claim a prominent spot in the global house scene. He truly is one of the creators of that distinct Ibiza sound that is loved and respected worldwide

Dj Pippi started to become known in musical circles in Ibiza, and one of his tapes was picked up by the management of "Pacha", who realised that this young Italian was the right person to make "Pacha" an unmissable venue in the disco circuits of the world. The disco's owners flew to Germany without hesitation to offer him the contract that would change his life.
Dj Pippi has worked two different stints in "Pacha". The first time was between 1984 and 1987, and the second one started in 1991 – and he is still playing there for special events. Amid these two stints, DJ Pippi signed a contract to work in the disco "Ku" (today’s "Privilege"). So this DJ has been playing records for more than 25 years. It is a job that takes up most of the year, as in summer he is one of the institutions of Ibiza, and during the winter he travels the world playing music on all five continents, thanks to bookings he receives through his booking agency Music Ibiza.

A sensitive artist overflowing with creativity and personality, 26-year old Emil Germod is a sound designer, producer and musician from Denmark. His style has been described as a mix between Arthur Russell (Dinosaur L) and Royksopp meets Vini Reilly (The Durutti Coumn) but stands firmly on his own two feet, combining falsetto vocals, beautiful guitar playing and powerful keyboards with slow disco grooves: "I just play and do what feels natural" says Emil Germ.

A characteristic of Emil Germ’s music is his eclectic mix of his very own deep and high-pitched falsetto voice, guest singers, and space disco grooves. He insists ‘I can take the quirkiest ingredients and make them sound inclusive, even a midi slap bass or the use of guitar hero solos’.

Emil first committed his production sensibilities to minimal techno and then later on punk/rock, but with the Emil Germ project he has found his place in a more pop and disco-orientated expression, where the key goal is to make catchy music with substance.

Kara Toprak is islandman’s first single off the forthcoming third album. The song recasts the celebrated Asik Veysel folk composition (of the same title) in electronic molds. The sepia melancholy of hallowed notes is rendered through islanmand’s plush surrealism. The gentle curls of Veysel’s baglama is transcribed by way of Jacob Gurevitsch’ sublime guitarwork onto deep bass waves. Kenneth Bager’s Radio Edit also features strings by Reinhard Vanbergen.
Asik Veysel (1894-1973) is one of the greatest figures of 20th century Turkish music and folk poetry. A life-long guardian of the ashik tradition, he played the bağlama to perfection and sang songs, forged by his perspective of the world as a blind man, that reverberated deep within the heart of Anatolian culture and identity. 
‘Kara Toprak’ (‘Black Earth’ in English) is one of those. It’s about the beauty of life and the absurdity of what we chose to do with it. It’s a paean to mother earth, the one giving life to us all. This rendition is done with the thought of keeping the memory of Asik Veysel and the ashik tradition alive. We hope you enjoy.
