Following his first ep for Accidental Jnr in the summer​ Bambooman is now back with something entirely different. The downtempo experimental designs of the ‘Feel EP’ give way to his latest offering ‘Shudder’. Available on 12” and digital the 4 tracks of Shudder weave through a club music tapestry like a chainsaw through custard. The opening and title track is hard to describe, a mix of off kilter synth stabs and hammering snare that routes you to the floor - it’s one of those tracks to whip out of your bag to remind the crowd they have no idea what is coming next. Track 2 ‘Grasp’ with a blissful Detroit groove under deep rich melting chords is a perfect blend of early funk house style and super crisp new production.

Side B opens with ‘M1’ a lazy floor track with washes of bells, static and detuned synth above a bed of solid kick and shuffling bass. Finally ‘Kyrian’ closes proceedings, another club friendly slice (despite being in a 7⁄8 time signature), the track could have led the EP in its own right but feels like the perfect bookend with its shifting almost garage like 2-step feel and glancing vocal hook.

‘Bambooman wields refined live recordings, warm exquisite melodies and a silvery vocal into the track’s rich musical fabric. It’s hard to suppress the emotions with this one’ - Boiler Room on ‘Feel EP’

SUA ONDA MIXTAPE #1 A - Side

Very happy to share an upfront dancefloor cut from a label close to our hearts, Batov Records. On this occasion, Romano's "Six". According to Romano himself, "Six" answers the pressing question, "What would have happened if the popcorn theme was invented in a parallel universe? A vintage-futuristic middle eastern disco party!". Released July 24 with three other bangers.

Inspired by his roots and his upbringing, the record is a dialogue on a more personal level, representing a part of Lior so far unknown to the public. The music on this release is a thematic contrast to his previous Baharat releases, which are inspired by the liveliness of jamming together and creating a funky groove. Nevertheless, it delivers the same joyful intensity! The album, which was completed at the end of 2019, was created with the help of friend and producer Orel Tamuz and it’s a musical snapshot of very different aspects of Lior’s life and showcases his multicultural upbringing.

Born to half-Turkish, half-Egyptian parents, and growing up in a Jewish household, Lior’s sound embraces his parents’ cultural heritage and his own musical background, mixing Turkish, Egyptian, and Greek folk music, surf and Mediterranean rock in a kaleidoscope of upbeat psychedelic groovy goodness. The influence of Omar Souleyman and Aris San’s work is very present in Lior’s work and can be made out from the ululating keyboards and high-pitched melodies in staccato form respectively. Featuring a blend of Arabic and Western structures, very funky basslines and catchy melodies, this instrumental record is the embodiment of fun and carefree celebration of the joy of making music.

Abby Lee Tee – Accidental Mini Mix

Dozens of cherished recordings were made during the legendary “golden age” of Ethiopian music, an era stretching from the early 1960’s through the mid-1970’s. Less-discussed are the songs made in the aftermath of the 1974 revolution that toppled Emperor Hailu Selassie I. The acclaimed and highly sought-after LP by Hailu Mergia and the Walias, Tche Belew, an album of instrumentals released in 1977, is perhaps the most seminal of these recordings. The story of the Walias band is a critical chapter in Ethiopian popular music, taking place during a period of music industry flux and political complexity in the country.

Hailu Mergia, a keyboardist and arranger diligently working the nightclub scene in Addis Ababa, formed the Walias in the early 1970’s with a core group of musical colleagues assembled from the remnants of prior working bands attached to the Zula and Venus clubs. One of the first “private” bands, the Walias got a steady gig at the prestigious Hilton Addis Ababa and remained independent from the government-supported bands of the time as well as from the clubs who employed bands.

From the late 1960s until the early 1990s, the particularly vibrant music scene in Mogadishu was teeming with pop and folk musicians whose influences spanned several genres of Somali traditional music alongside influences from abroad. 

Dur-Dur Band's music emerges from a time when Somalia's distinctive contribution to the creative culture in the Horn of Africa was clear and abundant--hundreds of recordings made at the Somali National Theatre, Radio Mogadishu and other studios, combined with cherished clubs like Juba and Jazeera and al-Curuuba Discotheque created a backdrop for a flourishing music scene.
