For my EP I created 3 songs that I then slowed down and put reverb on, in the style of DJ Screw.

- The first song is an ambient piece that goes through three sections: a granular minor Dorian piano sample, a sample of a Bhutanese song, and a string section that has a lot of feedback. I was inspired by Fennesz, Tim Hecker, “Pretending” by SOPHIE, and music of Terry Riley

- The second song is my attempt at house music which incorporates a sample of the Japanese band Geinoh Yamashirogumi. The mixing on this song is not great, but I plan to flesh it out more later.

- For the third song, I reused my Dealer’s choice song.

This EP—composed, performed, and produced by Andrew Zhang—is about growing. Each of the three tracks encapsulates a distinct memory and emotion, portraying what it means to grow, mature, develop, and learn. As an artist, Andrew reflects on the never-ending process of honing his craft, striving to create authentic and resonant music at the highest level. Andrew is primarily a jazz trombonist, so this EP itself was a learning experience. Similarly, on a personal level, he explores the journey of learning how to live, love, and be. Drawing from voice memos spanning several years, the tracks offer a glimpse into Andrew's memories and experiences, illustrating his evolving journey of learning, living, and growing.

Create a 1-3-minute audio composition that incorporates daily occurring sounds as a way to explore tempo and percussion using recorded media. Consider how your sound sources inform the overall concept and perception of your work. Is your composition a reflection of daily life on an individual or global scale? What does it mean to sample audio from daily life? Does your composition re-contextualize the mundane or comment on a specific emotion or perspective?
