Personal Passage is an imaginary journey that starts from a station and goes to a place that is not well defined, but is elsewhere.

The sounds of the record pass through calm and timeless places at frantic and often anxious moments. It crosses the moods of which it seeks to change, and often has to face light and dark.

Enthusiasm and fears mix and merge in a long time space, like a train journey, which sooner or later arrives at its destination.

Bio
Ópalo is the alias of DJ/Producer Alejandro Romero and was created to explore down- tempo beats and ambient drifts. Focus points of the project touch mysticism and spirituality while the music is created to leave the listener questioning its intentions. As the focus drifts from why it was made to how you’re feeling, clarity begins to shine through. The smooth, gentle, warm and deep sounds put the mind at ease, allowing the listener to find answers.  

Sundial LP

Sundial is a five track album created in Quito, Ecuador earlier this year. The album was created with a Yamaha MX49, a Korg Electribe and some effects from Arturia like the Buchla Easel, Synthi V and the Mini V. It also features collaborations from two Ecuadorian musicians, Pájaro de Rodillas and Luis García Montufar, who played a Fender Stratocaster and a quena respectively (quena is a traditional flute from the Andes commonly made from wood).

Side A
“Lost in Translation”, is inspired by the movie from Sofia Coppola. The track brings me to a place where love without pressure is often clouded with temporary feelings and circumstance. “Digresiones”, keeps the famous Ecuadorian painter Luigi Stornaiolo in mind as he loses the ability to paint with one hand but his story never gets dark. “Cuando se haga tarde” is an ambient experiment using guitar, synths and delays. In this track Pájaro & myself didn’t want to be attached to a beat but rather explore the rhythms and counterpoint that we could generate between atmospheres and guitar melodies.

Side B
“Ascenso Evolutivo”, we added a quena from street artist ‘Lucho’ García. This track started as a jam from three artists with different backgrounds but same taste for jazz and mystic soundscapes. We rehearsed and recorded it live and added bits of production later. “Donde la ciudad Explota” was created thinking about the north side of Quito. Its residents came for opportunities that the city offers but often find themselves lost in busy streets and pollution. Hopefully, this track provides an escape and clarity as they navigate through the fog.

Ópalo - Sundial

Amandra, half head honcho behind Ahrpe Records, goes for subtly evolving and droning atmospheres. With releases spanning both a wide range of electronic genres and record labels: Nous'klaer Audio, AD 93, Tikita or Semantica, just to name a few; the French producer based in Toulouse illustrates with coherence his own vision of acid and tribal rhythms that can be presented with either bright and soft feelings or through a darker, more disturbed path.

Brera Som Som EP
As always with Amandra, there is a blend of poetic and soft hidden touch given to the music through carefully crafted personal track names. Brera Som Som is a 4-tracker EP, recorded back when he lived in Warsaw Poland, showcasing the artist's ability to navigate through niche genres. It comes as a double 12" package cherry-topped with four intelligent and eclectic remixes from artists with their own unique identity: Shielding, Whylie, Martinou and Brainwaltzera.

Brera Som Som
I want my music to breathe dirty so it's alive to my ears, trying to stay away from surgical, clean, electronic music. The Prophet 08 is the one here, recorded by hand, with assumed offbeat imperfections, as always. I wanted to get a naïve Asian mood out of it, just to try and contrast with the rest of the track. I tend to think a lot about my tracks and their meaning more in terms of feelings, art and techniques than in terms of deep messages, political views, dance floors or whatever. Brera Som Som is a try at using the chiaroscuro technique depicted in classical paintings for instance, where you can have an interesting focus on some very specific elements.

Cyborg Pelikana
Recorded out of a jam on a Soma Pulsar 23 and some heavy distorted synths, it ended up sounding like no other recordings I made. The structure is also a bit different as I wanted to have a more composed-like approach here.

Fanfaron
Here is a try at going jungle... with a Moog DFAM and a 303 processed through a Sherman Filterbank.

Prorokini
This one belongs to a phase where I was exploring the sampling side of electronic music. Until that moment I was building 100% of my drums and ideas based on raw drum machines and some processing, then started feeling how it would feel to sample some raw external beats from a drummer for instance and process them my way. I didn't pursue that sampling lead much afterward because it felt like a boring approach to me at that time but a few tracks stood out anyway, like this one, which I'm very proud of. The synths are clearly programmed on the Prophet 08, it can't go any more Dave Smith Instruments than that, if you like them, go grab that synth!

"The remix was made using resampling techniques, the rhythmic noises were transformed into driving percussive layers pushing the imperfections into character. A more emotional overlay was added to the track based on the sentimental and personal approach I built through my sound."

Brera Som Som - Martinou Remix
"Interpreting Amandras' work has been on my bucket list for a while. There’s something in it that is innately humanizing and raw which I also wanted to capture in my remix. The melody line from the remix is just a snapshot of a small part of the full original track, but it stuck with me and expanded through improvisation to what you see before you today. With this remix I wanted to make something that would swell slowly and ring out into infinity.

In the past few years, Clarice Jensen has forged her own path. Recently, her focus has shifted to film scoring, successfully recording work for three feature films between 2020 and 2021. At the same time, Clarice continues to serve as artistic director of the American Contemporary Music Ensemble, while continually collaborating with an impressive array of musicians, such as Max Richter, Björk and Stars of the Lid, to name a few.

That being said, it was her 2019 tape release on Geographic North, Drone Studies, that initially caught the attention of a wider audience, with the work showcasing a compelling assembly of deeply immersive drones, and elegantly orchestrated compositions, in which neoclassical elements collide with electric density.

Three years later, the work has lost none of its innovative character and appeal. It also documents a turning point in Clarice's career, one where her classically trained background started to converged and overlap with her interests in improvisational electronics and drone music. As a result, the aptly titled Drone Studies shows Clarice at her most exploratory, introspective, and daring, channeling her areas of interest into a collage of richly textured timbers, and cello movements of sublime tension.

Now for the first time, the original album can be experienced through an expanded vinyl reissue, mastered by Rafael Anton Irissari, and carefully adjusted for vinyl by Ian Hawgood. The new reissue also features an additional track by Clarice called Platonic Solids 2, which was originally conceived around the same time as Drone Studies, and which has now been made available exclusively for the vinyl edition and on the Vaagner Bandcamp.

We hope that this new reissue will aid in introducing Clarice's groundbreaking Drone Studies to a new crowd of listeners through this expanded edition.

Japanese sound artist @yosuketokunaga debuts on @entangledvisions with "6 Lengths". Hazy synths and crackling ambiences appear and disappear over wide horizons of sound, resulting in a courtly and fascinating piece of sound research.

The abstract scenarios created by Tokunaga carry the listener towards gentle and meditative places, acting as sensorial bridges between reality and dreams.

@texturcph is proud to present The New Old, the first solo album of Nathan L. The New Old is de-composed chamber music on ketamine. The New Old is a performative practice based on improvisation and chance (& ketamine). The New Old is noise. The New Old is not noise. The New Old is an emotional act of transforming, of doing violence to the integrity of the original material as a constructive act of demolition.

The album surfaces from a unique and inordinate working process in which sonic material from various traditional classical instruments are shredded, forced into feedback loops, and mixed with recordings of crashing software, futuristic self-built instruments, and tender
manual processing. 

The New Old is the eighth release on Textur, a non-profit label and music collective rooted in Copenhagen, with an ambition to create a platform for exposure, collaboration, and community among artists outside the commercial music scene. 

Nathan L. is a musician, composer, and visual artist who thrives in uncertainty and finds delight in the entropy of noise. Originally trained in classical flute, jazz composition, and arrangement, L. is now involved in various experimental and genre-breaking contexts spanning improvisation, electronics, installation and performance.

"This mix was recorded live at the last Living Room event a few weeks ago in June. We hosted the first NUG show and also the lovely project called Tutti by Heather Mease and Grace Holleran. It was a pretty random track selection of some of my most played tunes and I decided to do a lot of looping, fx and tempo changes to make it really drony and drowsy. Honestly most of these songs came out unrecognizable. I was trying to cool off the place while the audience was still arriving to the venue from an intense heatwave outside."

There is no word or genre that unites the artists of the label. Putting a word on a style, in order to classify, takes part of the magic away. Instead, what unites us is our passion for sound, dancing with friends and growing together.
