TRUST ME ONE MORE TIME
Joey Blake was my cousin, although I hardly knew him. His family emigrated when Joey was a young child and I had no more contact. He was brought up a world away from the bleak industrial North East of England that I grew up in. Still he also knew some hard times. 

As a teenager, he was a bit wild and reckless, but he wasn't a bad kid. He was just young and full of life and liked having a good time. Yes, he'd been in trouble and broken the law a few times. Disturbing the peace, drink driving and that sort of stuff, but nothing really serious.

Vanya had been his long suffering girlfriend since they were at high school and much against her parents advice, kept putting up with his wild behaviour. That was until the final time when he had a fling with her best friend. She made her mind up not to see him anymore. 

Joey drifted for a while and found himself one night in a bar in Porterville where he got into a fight with a local man. The man drew a gun so Joey made a grab at him and in the struggle, the man was shot and killed. Unfortunately, that's not the story the witnesses gave when the police arrived. Joey was arrested for murder. But then he escaped police custody and went on the run. That made things look even worse.

He hid out in a deserted shack near Stockley Ridge, a small mountain town in Yellow County. He'd managed to make a call to Vanya explaining everything and asking her to come up and meet him. Vanya didn't hesitate and quickly made plans to travel there. However, the police were keeping a watch on Vanya and when she left on her journey, they were following close behind. 

On the appointed day, Joey was waiting out on Rainbow Bridge. He was really excited when he saw Vanya approaching, but then he saw the police stalking behind her. Maybe he thought Vanya had betrayed him. Maybe it was just a desperate attempt to escape. But Joey jumped from the bridge and was killed on the rocks below.

After the tragedy, Vanya was absolutely distraught. She blamed herself for what happened to Joey and it took a long time for her to come to terms with events, although she never really got over it. Finally, after some years, she was able to move on and get on with her life. She eventually met and married someone else and went on to raise a family. But she never forgot Joey. Every year on the anniversary of his death, she revisits the scene, says a prayer and throws a bouquet of flowers from the bridge.

Street prostitution is an evil trade and make no mistake, prostitutes are victims. They are forced to sell sexual services by their controllers or pimps. These guys are the real criminals. They manipulate their girls and coerce them into providing sexual acts through abuse, threats, forced dependence on drugs and physical violence. This often takes the form of repeated rapes by one or more people to create submission. They also restrict the victims movements and prevent communication with family and friends. 

Girls are expected to earn nightly quotas and this money is all confiscated by the pimp. This is big business and the chances of the real offenders being brought to justice are minimal. Pimps are well organised but much less visible and almost impossible for police to investigate. Individuals victimised by this sort of organised network will lie to police about the existence of a pimp and will present themselves as acting completely independently. Policing strategies are totally ineffective. They typically arrest prostitutes and not their clients. The prostitute will receive a heavy fine and then have to work even harder to meet their quotas and pay the fine. Add to this the fact that there are many corrupt officers taking bribes to turn a blind eye to street prostitution and it is indeed a very murky world for the real victims of this sordid crime.

Aren't you tired of all those mindless TV talent shows? They're so contrived and artificial. It's really sickening how the contestants are exploited. The winners are forced to sign 360 degree contracts where their management take a huge percentage of EVERYTHING they do. 

Out of their earnings, the artist has to pay all the expenses of recording, performing, videos, musicians, transport, hotels and touring etc, as well as all the hangers on. The majority are left owing far more than they earn and end up bankrupt. 

But they do enjoy the glamour of being a so called celebrity. Unfortunately, that only lasts until the next series of the show when the whole ridiculous circus starts again and a new 'star' is born.

Jack Wright was hung for murder in a public execution at Durham Prison on 7th October, 1795. He was 19 years old. His accuser was Amanda Brindle, a beautiful gypsy woman who preyed on gullible young men like Jack and used them for her own means. Jack's real crime was falling in love. He was bewitched by Amanda after seeing her dance at a local fair. He left his farm labouring job to travel with her. Amanda convinced Jack that a deranged ex-lover was pursuing her and was intent on harming her. In fact, this man was one of her many husbands who she had robbed before running off to reunite with her fairground family. Bigamy and robbery were Amanda's modus operandi and she would often temporarily take strong, young lovers for protection from pursuing husbands. So it was with Jack. When Amanda's husband caught up with them, there was a fight and the husband was killed. Amanda accused Jack of murder and he was duly arrested, tried and convicted. She was never charged with any crime. She stood in the crowd and smiled as the execution bell rang and Jack was led from his cell to the gallows.

London Town MUSICAL JUICE Original Songs With A Story To Tell

Juice was formed way back in the 1960's and were part of the early underground movement that later developed into psychedelic and progressive rock. Although we were an original and innovative band, we were completely overlooked by the major record labels. We refused to be exploited or conform to their rules and chose to remain independent. We had a great affinity with our audiences and managed to build up a huge cult following, but being outsiders, we never had any mainstream success. In those days it was impossible to go against the established corporate music business that had overwhelming control over the industry.

Juice were eventually forced to put a limit on their live shows, but we stuck together and continued writing and recording. We have stayed true to our beliefs and remain outsiders, but with the help of modern technology, we are now able to continue what we started and reach out to our audience in ways that were unimaginable in the past.
