Our mix for this week comes from Rohan Rakhit, a London-based DJ, Actor, Broadcaster and one of the team behind the Asian Underground collective Daytimers. 

Daytimers is a crew that celebrates South Asian artistry through multiple platforms, and since it’s inception has hosted the first all South Asian music festival ‘Dialled In’ last year, with its second  instalment launching next month. Rohans set with Saachi at the first all South Asian Boiler Room was also selected as one of the best mixes of the year by Mixmag. Rohan is an incredibly versatile selector and also hosts a regular show on Worldwide FM where he’s constantly blowing us away with a plethora of selections from all corners of the globe. Macondo Mix 009: Rohan Rakhit

This weeks mix comes from the Broken-Beat Wizard, XL Regular. Hailing from Italy, XL has made a name for himself producing a variety of broken sounds, most notably a number of remixes and collaborations with SofaTalk on Monologues and Lips &amp; Rhythm Records. In April, XL released his first full solo EP 'XL3000'  on London's ANMA Records, the EP was an incredible throwback to the classic period of early Broken-Beat and even featured a remix from Bruk legend EVM128. 

This weeks mix "is meant to be a selection of new &amp; old favourites, mixing alternative versions of classics (track 3, 10) with unreleased material (track 5,7,9,11) and recent releases. The mood often goes up &amp; down moving from mid tempo jams to a more club oriented environment in the second half."

Joshua Lane Yana is an Artist & Writer based in London. Working for tea importers, collecting records and self taught on the piano and flute, Joshua’s inventiveness and inspirations are drawn from nature, love of music, literature and his travels, particularly his time in Japan. Japan has been and continues to be a great cultural significance and influence on him.

“This mix is a juxtaposition of tunes, of different moods, mostly listened to alone, in the heat and in the cold, when things have been euphoric, and looking up at the blue sky – imagining scenes of grandeur - dreaming, and in praise and awe of how these pieces of music came to me. I hope you enjoy, if not at least some.”

Macondo Mix 17: DJ Subaru

8 years since their last album, Shaolin Afronauts return with The Fundamental Nature of Being,  a monumental 5 LP box-set recorded over 5 days to be released on Freestyle Records. Drawing on the bands wide variety of influences spanning from 1960's avant-garde Jazz to the 1970's music of West and South Africa and everything in-between, the release has so much to offer and in just two tracks show us what a truly epic and boundless experience we can expect.

Here, Morning Song pares down the ensemble's core elements forming a stripped-back spirtual jazz groover, while Valley of the Crucible fuses a desert blues-influenced rhythm section with ethio-style horns to dazzling effect.

Warriors Part 2 is the new track from The Banger Factory's new album Warriors, releasing on Banger Factory Records. Composed by Mark Kavuma and performed with Theo Erskine and Ruben Fox, this 8-minute long monster of a track is 'a maelstrom of turbulent grooves, inspiring solo's and shifting tempo's'.

Let me breathe, walk alone at night without being scared, allow me to flourish without restrictions.

Hector Plimmer's remix reassembles elements from another Sasson original, "Cantos Campesinos", focusing on a particular vocal motif. Hector re-tunes the rhythm to his purposes, building tension and borrowing a bell sound to raise it even further, before releasing a skittering drum pattern with plenty of swing and a heavy dose of low end. Before the song ends, Hector goes deeper, adding sensual synth chords and finally a flute-like synth solo to complete this musical trip that is surely destined to soundtrack a few hazy evenings this summer. This is the only available stream of the remix.

Liz’s vocals speak of a spiritual strength and love despite all, Dan’s motivational bad language is equally loving and direct, whilst Dave Koor (Deoke) lends his analog synth lights to the streetwise mantra. Vince Vella doubles up on synth bass with a quiet all-knowing nod of approval in the background, yet not forgotten in the dark.
