For Canadian Songwriter Challenge 2016, MFM partnered with the Northern Lights Festival Boréal (NLFB), the Near North Mobile Media Lab (N2M2L) and l'Association des professionels de la chanson et de la musique (APCM) to bring you a co-writing and demo recording adventure on the beautiful shores of Sudbury's Ramsey Lake, July 8-10, 2016. 

10 Northern Ontario-based participants were chosen to take part in the free event where they were paired up, and, with the help of mentors Fred Squire, Serge Brideau (Les Hôtesses d'Hilaire), and ShoShona Kish (Digging Roots), challenged to write and record a brand new song in the span of the festival's 3 days. The whole weekend wrapped up with a demo listening party aboard the famed Cortina Cruise boat. The exciting festival atmosphere and outdoor experience definitely proved to be inspiring for our gorup of participants.

Northern Ontario's 2016 participants were: Rachel Barber, Jimmy Breslin, Connor Clowes, Julian Cote, Martine Fortin, Esther Pennell, Jean-Paul De Roover, Lindsay Sullivan, David Dino White & Tessa.
