Levon Helm died April 19, 2012. The public was notified a day or two prior to his death, which created a beautiful, worldwide outpouring of love for the man, and a celebration of his life, while he was still with us. We should all be so lucky as to go that way. We celebrated Levon, by covering a song that was released by Levon & The Hawks as an ATCO 45 b-side in 1965, months before the group started touring with Dylan. Richard Manuel sang the original, and J.R. Robertson is credited as writer. The All Stars ran it through half a time, then the show began. Host Nicholas Hill sings lead, and backing vocals are Don Piper and Matt Horn. Guest writer Franklin Bruno played Garth’s role on Hammond organ. Radio Free All-Stars Dave Schramm, David Mansfield, JD Foster, Konrad Meissner and Ted Reichman rocked it accordingly.
