"The idea for this mix is a moody blend of local sounds in Naarm with production from Asian record labels. I wanted to highlight how these different sounds complement one another and provide exposure to the growing dance communities overseas. These intentions are tied to my experience being part of the Australian-Chinese diaspora, reconciling identity and culture between East and West - blending songs from these different scenes, and the feelings that occur in doing so."

Hashman Deejay stands out as one of those DJ's and producers where he lets the music do the talking. Like fellow collaborators PLO Man & C3D-E you won't see many interviews, let alone photos - they show up to the party and do their thing. 
With a vast range of alias' and collaborative projects Hashman has been responsible for some of the rawest sounds in experimental, breaks, house and techno. As well as a DJ his vast taste can expand anywhere from shoegaze and punk, disco and raw chicago sounds, to dubbed acid and techno. 
For this mix the selector has dug deep into the tape hiss sounding crates covering oldschool beats that could be mistaken for an OG Ras G tape, dub flowing onwards into some select acid house and more synth focused club sounds all working together with the most seamless touch. We had a very brief chat with Hashman about his mix but this one is all about the sounds and he lets that do the talking.

Off The Record Mix Series 56: Hashman Deejay

To borrow a phrase from Best Available Technology, this mix is a sprawling selection of sonics proper from old friend of the label, NTS and Radio alHara host, Lucia Kagramanyan. It's an hour and change's worth of heady mind-melters, that should, if nothing else, offer up a non-caffeinated alternative to the coffee you so desperately need to make it to the office you keep promising yourself you'll leave. It could also make for a pretty decent soundtrack to your pilfering anything not bolted to the floors of the job you did finally quit, but how you consume these mixes is your own business. We're just thrilled to have Lucia finally here on the series.
