Duckfood invites you to the music of Tunisia. This mixtape features different styles of music but consists predominantly of Mezoued, a genre of popular traditional music based on North African Amazigh scale rhythms. It incorporates Tunisian Darbouka drums and a bagpipe called a mizwad/mezoued. Originally the music of the countryside and the working classes, it is often played at weddings and parties. The themes of Mezwed are typically social: immigration, racism, family and love. Nowadays with electronic influences traditional sounds get stretched into new fusions. This months show is a collection of Streetpunk, Anarchopunk and Oi! from the second wave of punk in the 1980s featuring bands such as The Mob, Zounds, The Oppressed, Blitz, GBH and The Exploited. The second iteration of Punk came from the streets. It was louder, faster and angrier than before in response to the commercialisation of previous Punk bands and the realities of living in Thatchers Britain: Poverty, Unemployment, Violence and Police Brutality.
