Exclusive: Teakup - Buckwheat (The Body Knows)

What else to do than to sip some sweet tea out of a tea cup? Midwest artist Lauri Reponen delivers a fresh and sassy EP, Sips Tea– or a six tracker that covers the artist's “knack for crafting irresistibly weird house music.“ After appearing on labels like is / was and Residual Recordings Teakup now sprinkles his musical fairy dust on Brooklyn based label HOMAGE in form of Perlon-esque, wonky and trippy takes aiming to be played out at (living room) dance floors. The EP's lead track Buckwheat (The Body Knows) starts off with a crispy bass line before spoken vocals are added and piano chords are introduced. While latter remains a key element of the track Teakup adds another additional synth-line with a brighter texture which seems to serve as a counterpart to the darker piano chords. Buckwheat (The Body Knows) continuously grooving interaction comes to the grand finale when Teakup lets the track's backbone elements deliberately collapse – causing the initially mentioned wonky and trippy moments in the music – and ends the track with the intriguing bass crunchy bass line. 

Teakup's EP Sips Tea will be released on HOMAGE on March 12th, 2021.

At Robert Johnson kicks off 2021 with a new cut above the rest thanks to Benjamin Fröhlich, who dons a cosmic Acid-to-Italo four-track EP. Whether „Club Fantasy“ insinuates the phantasy of clubbing in times of a pandemic shutdown in global club cultures, or a club by the name of it, lies within the ears of the listeners. Either way, Benjamin’s ties with the Robert Johnson club can be heard resonating throughout this fantastic EP.

Club Fantasy (Club Version) introduces a a happy 303 reminiscent bouncy bassline, supported by relentless rim shots, fast-forwards the Club Version of the title track directly into the uplifting domains of well-established sounds. Sparse echoing vocal snippets, encouraging us to dance, and by the time the piano stabs finally kick in, it’s all hands up for your very own club phantasies.
Club Fantasy (Fantasy Version) boasts a less peaky signature, while working a more playful and driving treatment of the title track, supported by mellow strings, a harder kick and subtle room reverberation.
On the flip-side, Escape presents a warm, emotional and cinematic Italo soundscape, featuring floating arpeggios, which flash like coloured strobes in the dark. 
Benjamin’s final track, Dream Machine, is a beautiful kaleidoscope of sounds, slightly more energetic yet moody, that is sure to catch everyone's ears on the dancefloor.

As a co-founder to Munich based record label Permanent Vacation, but also as a DJ and producer, Benjamin Fröhlich’s musical involvement traces back many years in the Cosmic Disco and Balearic scene, and into the networks of both Robert Johnson club and its label.

Step Recordings are dropping 'Les Mondes Des Images', Metropolitan Soul Museum's second EP on the label.

In 2019 MSM gave Step 6 tracks for their 'Travellers' EP, receiving support from a variety of artists like Honey Soundsystem, DJ Sling, Photonz, Ciel, Jad & to name a few. After nearly two years and releases on labels like Public Release, Yellow Island and Bosconi Records, the London-based duo return on Pets' sub-label with 5 tracks, produced before and during the first 2020 global lockdown.

'Les Mondes Des Images' is a collection of some of MSM's deepest tracks, with a strong connection between sounds and visuals: each track is in fact named after some of their favourite paintings, aiming at fusing the senses. The EP opens up with the stomping and moody 'Terre Ecosaisse', a firey red cut; following is the title Track; a 4/4 cut driven by a melancholic pad and stabs melody, full of hopes and green. 'Sping Crown' is a minimalistic gem, surrounded by a very blue mood. The EP closes with 'The Riot', a bright broken beat track, driven by a wonderful crescendo into a sunny yellow vibe. Finally 'N.15', a bonus ambient track, where light arpeggios are blended with a soothing piano melody. Like a grey rainy day.

This December, 2020 offers us a gift in the form of ‘The Inner Space’ LP from Moscow based artist, designer, DJ, music producer and live performer, Finetune known for his affiliation with the Slowdance label and event organisation. The LP will be spread across vinyl, and digital (free download on the Finetune Bandcamp) in two parts. An immerseful experience that not only strains the boundaries of sound, but also visually as real name Michael Dop fuses his eclectic talents with sound and art accompanying the album by creating the full visual concept. The Finetune project was initiated in 2018, creating poetry via his modular and fm synthesizers, upright piano, sampers, gong, drum machines, groove boxes, and different percussion instruments, all being utilised here across "The Inner Space" release.
