Next on the agenda, DAILYCID 013. On the A side, Data17 returns to Dailycid with 2 more bombs to share. Data17 has been churning out top shelf tracks on the label for a considerable amount of time, a regular face that is more than welcome for fans of dance floor dynamic heaters. On the B side the mighty Miller, Real gang founder and all round beat aficionado. Miller has been killing it over the last few months with some fantastic releases, with plenty more to come from the UK talent. 


First up is A1, “Beautiful”. A party starter with a dreamy twist. The mixture of the soothing piano with the bird song really sets the tone for the track. A somewhat nostalgic feeling lingers throughout the track while the vocal samples describe the emotion behind the instruments “strange… beautiful”. “Glory Hole” This one comes straight from the dungeon. Dark, dingy, groovy. The perfect combo. As the track progresses a slightly lighter note comes into play adding a more whimsical tone. A club orientated cocktail of sounds with all of the ingredients working in harmony.  

On the B Side, Miller comes in with his track “Don’t Worry About Me” which is truly representing the sound that he has built over the years. First those classic 909 hats strike the beat followed by some seriously killer vocals. This ones sure to slam it on the dance floor this year. Once it ends, you just want to play it again. Lastly, “Same, Dream But Different”. A loopy bass induced tune which is sure to get you in motion. Once again Miller is pulling out all the stops with a powerful track that's sure to send you straight into the void. The glitchy drums collide with the broken vocals throughout and keep you in a lucid like state. The breakdown draws you into a daze before being launched back in at full throttle.

Robert Roman is surround sound personified. Through multiple channels, he is seemingly everywhere and all at once. By age 8, he was fascinated by the intricacies and subtleties of quality sound. The inception of his career as a DJ/Promoter was brought to life by 18. Through beach-raves, utilizing generators and local talent, he first showcased his understanding and passion for music. This sent waves through his community sparking a new scene in South Texas, allowing Robert to host international DJs at his club residency for the following two years. His motivation to expand his knowledge brought him to Austin, TX, to attend audio engineering school and immerse himself into the Austin electronic music scene. Robert’s ambition for a select caliber of sound led him to spearhead Movement Collective, a party series based in Berlin and Austin, hosting multiple residencies throughout his tenure. The “movement” this inspired in Austin, ignited Blacktone, an agency and party series, founded by Robert’s friends and colleagues which he is now a part of. Furthering his relentless mission to develop and share diverse music, Robert co-founded ubiyu, a record label and party series in Austin, TX. Ubiyu currently hosts two monthly residencies to showcase their roster of international DJ’s and is steadily releasing digital and vinyl EP’s. Robert's appetite for sublime sound and a unique range of selection will never be satiated.

'Celebrating his 25th year as a producer and DJ, London’s Silverlining announces his first ever double-vinyl artist album, ‘Simulacra’, a brand new collection of emotive yet powerful body music from his South London studio. Known for his diverse and bassline-driven grooves, this work sees him straddle between the stripped-back house and techno that we have come to adore on his acclaimed Silverlining Dubs series, with eclectic forays into territories of electronic musicality unexplored by him until now. Adopting a similar analogue workflow and kit-list to that used for his 1990s productions, the collection retains his trademark sonic brilliance, whilst demonstrating, once again, that his ideas are far from running out.
 

Subtly interwoven into its mood and lyrics, the album explores themes of dependence on misrecognised digital identities, and the importance of real world tangibility. Adopting Jean Baudrillard’s definition of the word ‘simulacra’ — “the generation by models of a real without origin or reality” — the tracks and vinyl have been given abstracted nomenclature to allow for the listener to infer their own meanings and order of play. “We’re in the midst of a turning point”, Silverlining states, “where nearness and authenticity are more valuable than ever before. Given recent events, real life collectivities are going to play a crucial role in maintaining this.” For the album’s artwork, Silverlining has collaborated with celebrated print-making  artist, Leonie Bradley, whose work explores similar themes.
 

The album opens with ‘Contracultura’, a 12-minute genre-bending journey of two halves. Making an unlikely flip from electro tenacity to warm deep house, the track’s distinctive bassline arrangement underpins a haunting Vocoder mantra to countercultures. Next up, ‘Aura’ shimmers with Detroit inspired keys and a feverish vocal sample. The crystalline and infectious house groove of ‘Fulcra’ is laced with dreamy synths for the early hours. The second disc launches with a hop, skip and jump on ‘Schema’, where an old school organ-bass drives the track towards flanged atmospheric keys that culminate in pure vibe. ‘Observa’ delves into hazy, dub laden abstraction, with its low swung breaks that wander beneath slick spoken word vocals from Miami’s Ntem (Soulclap). On ‘Tundra’, Silverlining calls on vocalist, Saba, for an old school, acid drenched and impassioned Chicago groove that meanders with sheer class in the spirit of bygone halcyon days. Closing out with panache is, ‘Recognitia’, a flashback to the feel-good golden age of 90s hip hop, featuring Ntem & Saba who both bring a unique flavour to the record with their duet.
 

This versatile collection of new music from Silverlining caters both for tasteful record collectors, and deeper DJs alike, with its extensive yet consistent spectrum of flavours. Shortly after this package of solo work, Silverlining will also be delivering a collaborations compilation of reissues from his illustrious past via Dutch imprint, Ninih, and includes sought after tracks from projects such as Two Right Wrongans, Impossible Beings, Appleheadz, and Southern Comforters.'
