 The sweet sounds of Anthony Ellect's "Look" immediately grasped our attention earlier this year. As a budding new artist, we wanted him to make a mix for us and...Voila!

For an hour, Anthony weaves in between a James Blake vibe to smooth R&B vocals of over chilled out bass lines. He occasionally adds a little Kastle-esq flair and some funk. The end is spacey and sexy, finishing off with an original track he put out about a year ago, "Debt".

Smart Mix 59: J.Phlip

Somewhat solely a house head, Fall 2012 I started delving into the likes of what is now coined "future" bass. Coming up on Jason through my newest obsession, Druid Cloak, as he wonderfully remixed “Somebody” originally by Jason Burns & Symbols owner/producer, Kastle.

 A first listen for Burns, I went one deeper and loved what I heard from him individually. Darker and sexier than the garage-y  sounds of beloved UK babes Disclosure & Bondax... even L.A based Kastle. Burns gives us a technical bassy house vibe that we can only call, "future" whatever. Lucky for us, Portland’s own, Jason gives out most of his tracks for free.

 His rather eclectic style is seamlessly executed in an hour and a half mix. Jason comfortably swings between bass and house- some killer new tracks, originals and just plain goodies.

Always curious to hear fresh transitions of last year’s hit “Let’s Get Hot” by Breach & NEVER complaining about a French Fries “Yo Vogue” throw in- you will play this one out.

 Based out of San Francisco, Ardalan is part of beloved Dirtybird label and family. This past year has been insane for the crew as their popularity has skyrocketed- not only in the states, but across the world.

In tune with the nature of the DirtyBird players, Ardalan and Music is Love present you with one hell of a house mix: classic, clean, simple- all the while being pleasingly technical and provocative.

With their own unique twist on clubby techno with original vocals, Arnold & Lane are set to have a very strong year regardless of what tricks the virus has up its nasty sleeves. Once the gates open and we’re set free upon the dancefloor, we’re willing to bet our furry paws that you’ll be seeing these guys on all kinds of festival stages across the US.

Now that we’ve buttered the duo’s bread with our sweet praises, let's get to the music. The title track One Button is an absolute chugger, filled out with a groovy 303 while a robotic voice takes you through the paces. Gas Then Dip and Baby Baby Baby (very important to say it all 3 times) take you to the darker side of the duo's taste. 808s, 90s vocal chops and unforgettable vocal hooks are the name of the game here.
