Music is Love - Podcast E004 - feat Crimes!

Somewhat solely a house head, Fall 2012 I started delving into the likes of what is now coined "future" bass. Coming up on Jason through my newest obsession, Druid Cloak, as he wonderfully remixed “Somebody” originally by Jason Burns & Symbols owner/producer, Kastle.

 A first listen for Burns, I went one deeper and loved what I heard from him individually. Darker and sexier than the garage-y  sounds of beloved UK babes Disclosure & Bondax... even L.A based Kastle. Burns gives us a technical bassy house vibe that we can only call, "future" whatever. Lucky for us, Portland’s own, Jason gives out most of his tracks for free.

 His rather eclectic style is seamlessly executed in an hour and a half mix. Jason comfortably swings between bass and house- some killer new tracks, originals and just plain goodies.

Always curious to hear fresh transitions of last year’s hit “Let’s Get Hot” by Breach & NEVER complaining about a French Fries “Yo Vogue” throw in- you will play this one out.

Reminiscent of their booty-ful set from Lucidity 2013, if you caught San Francisco based Sex Pixels in the act at Audiowaska stage at Lucidity 2014, I'm sure you were not let down. 

Playing from sunset to darkness, the boys flirted shamelessly with the crowd , playing sexy, tripped-out grooves  as the sun wiggled it's way down it's last visible crevasse. At dark, foreplay was over as they brought in some serious booty bouncing bass, pulling the crowd in to to do one thing- Get down, of course! Audio intimacy at it's finest- thank you, boys!

The duo had an impressive resume last summer, including playing on the Woogie stage at Lightning in a Bottle in Southern California.

Sex Pixels - Audiowaska Stage - Lucidity Festivals 2014 [Promo Mix 006]

Having had the pleasure of catching The Originalz at Northern Nights late last month, I was able to witness how the two synchronically perform as a solid bass breading machine. One of them on a CDJ and the other on a MPD24 controller pad and an MPK mini, together the duo constructs some serious future bass music.

The OriGinALz met at Burning Man back in 2010. Initially you would think the two seemed like an unlikely pair- Troy Prokopowich grew up playing the piano while Michael Rivera drew influences out of his love for hip-hop, but seemingly the two compliment each other.

With the intent of connecting beings through music, together the boys produce a surplus of various bass originals and remixes that tickle your ears with that sweet West Coast future sound.

Raised in Germany and currently residing in Munich, Lehvi is a 23-year-old producer who is not just getting his feet wet, but making waves within his community.

It was just two years ago that Lehvi delved into the enlivening world of electronic music. With roots in his love for hip-hop, Lehvi began his career producing for local rappers in his area. Once a friend showed him the bright and shiny world of EDM, Lehvi was refreshed and instantly hooked.

Lehvi’s current production is definitely inspired by his first love for hip-hop, but his take on the mixing of the two genres sweetens up his urban influence quite nicely.

Lucidity 2015, we love you already and we can’t want to play with you! Rounding up our 4-part series is house producer Doug English. Seemingly coming out of nowhere, our first listen was initiated with Doug's Hood Life EP release via flourishing house label, Perfect Driver, early in 2014. Since then, English has rapidly become recognized for his booty-tech style influenced deeply from Detroit’s decades-standing house scene. Clearly we weren’t the only ones digging Dougie’s sound as it appeared to be a DirtyBird favorite to DJ all last summer, boosting English’s credibility as one of deep house’s newest and hottest underground producers.Though still working through his early 20s, his age is anything but a factor as Doug’s ear for music seems to surpass what is generally appreciated during his age. Complimenting the minimal quality of tech and deep house, the early 20-something superstar DJ/producer pulls classic inspiration from the windy music city’s funky Motown roots, livening up his production and sets with some serious soul.

Lucidity Countdown 2015: Week 4 - Doug English [Promo Mix 014]

Tapping into producing three years ago, Sherlock quickly discovered the sound he needed to stand out in a stream of artists seemingly stuck in a rut replicating each other. For every one standout and innovative producer, there are about 100 more trying to replicate his/her style- Sherlock isa case of the former, an artist who is truly pushing the bounds of creativity with a truly novel style. 
 
Entering the scene with what he would define as a progression of “gritty [and] dark grime, to weird house stuff;” today Sherlock’s brainchild is a sound that we both have difficulty placing. The most obvious “future bass” denotation is favored, but hearing his music you realize there is much more. Bassett’s style is cooly calculated and elaborate, even within his mix, his tracks completely stand out in the best way possible. Super dreamy and wavy, Sherlock utilizes avant-garde artists to compliment his new age bass and capricious synth work, often taking the listener for an unexpected, but fully welcomed, turn.
