Throughout the past decade the Midwestern United States has become a home for the morbid style of rap that has been appropriately titled, "the wicked shit."

After originating in metro Detroit, the styles underground following flourished throughout Ohio, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New York all beneath the radar of the mainstream music scene.

Many hip-hop artists took notice, seeing an opportunity to take advantage of this growing popularity by utilizing elements of the genre without truly pushing the envelope.
