Bedrock - part 3

Gregor Tresher kicks off 2015 looking to break new soil with his first ever full release for John Digweed's Bedrock Records.   

Last year was as hectic as ever for the Gregor and he came into it on high from the success of his artist album Nightcolours and having closed out 2013 by releasing an astonishing Laurent Garnier remix of the title track, on his own imprint.   Time to relax a little maybe? Not a chance. January saw the remixed version of the album hit the stores and this was backed within a few weeks by 'Taurus', Gregor's enticing collaboration with Petar Dundov. The summer saw him remix the Chymera classic 'Shadowdancer' and he closed 2014 with the superb 'Midas / Disturber' double-header.   

Somewhat of a musical chameleon, Tresher is as at home creating deeper shades of house for the likes of Moon Harbour and Ovum as he is techno rhythms for Music Man, Cocoon and Drumcode.   With label boss Digweed a huge fan, Bedrock is yet another perfect fit for the German and he opens his account with the mighty, melodic and Kraken'esque 'Goliath' and the razor-sharp lightning bolt that is 'Stormblade'.

You may (or not) have noticed I’ve been slightly obsessed with the oscillator synch on the Voyager. I probably need to step away from this sound for a bit however both these tracks are a result of late nights deep in that world.

The lead track MASSAI began with the arpeggiator that moves throughout the song. There’s a snippet of audio I sampled from a documentary about the Maasai’s journey across the Serengeti that repeats throughout. Maasai jumping is real spectacle and well worth checking out.

Bamboo Forest is special dance floor in Goa. I played the sunrise set there several years ago which I’ll never forget.The synth work and melody transported me straight back to that dance floor hence the name.

It’s the pre-squeeze leading up to the big release. Mobilee presents this double-track treat on both vinyl and digital. 

The A-side tears it up with „Hartwood“, Rodriguez Jr.’s biggest hit to date. With a series of alternating and repetitive keyboard strokes and soulful lyrics bouncing on a thick velvet cushion of rich background base, this number is guaranteed to appeal to the industry’s most respected players. Already landing on the hard drives of Pete Tong, Laurent Garnier and Simian Mobile Disco “Hartwood” has gained a bit of airtime as loyal listeners burn for the final release date.

The B-side features Anja Schneider with a full out female power vocal number ironically titled, “Henry & Lars”. This track takes form from a very cuddly story that took place at BPM Festival in Mexico as Anja’s little guy and a stuffed animal named “Lars” found love and friendship in a little girl and her stuffed-animal she called “Henry”. And so the story went on…

The two outstanding tracks leading up the 7th mobilee back to back compilation on April 5th is just the tip of the iceberg! Look out for another digital release „mobilee back to back part 2“ before the back to back hits online stores and shelve.
