Kind of a hard shift from what we are used to with my music but I've been wanting to make something more atmospheric and less reliant on a sample for awhile now. The brief vocal sample is none other than Nina Simone, a personal favorite and a beautiful voice. She accents some crunchy and smooth filtered pads with a smooth first half, and an all amen second half. I hope you enjoy!

NickBee is an instantly recognisable name across the darker realms of drum & bass. Constantly evolving his sound, he's stayed on its forefront since the beginning, grabbing the attention of scene heavyweights and distributing his hard-hitting sounds throughout the entire genre. Across the shadier world of the European club circuit, his music is played in every venue and his sonic cuts have become an integral part of its backbone. He's an architect of the neurofunk realm, wielding his trademark signature and pushing through the animalistic bassline he's become renowned for through this next release on Ignescent Recordings.

The experimental element to his music is what makes it interesting. The artist has become a tastemaker at such a young age, with his defining, next-level composition design never overstated or applied too thickly. With a balance of hi-tech and low-fi elements, he's expertly crafted this EP with the utmost precision. ‘The Space Tunnel EP' carries forward the type of production which has made him so famous and a defining part of the subgenre's history.

‘Space Tunnel' exorcizes the beast, with crashing drum patterns and a snare that crunches aggressively against its bassline. NickBee goes in for the aural jugular, unafraid to draw blood.

Next comes ‘Chaos', featuring the daunting vocals of Emily Harkness. Taking you bit by bit into a climatic drop, NickBee smashes forward with pounding breaks yet remains inconspicuous with his approach.

‘Get it closer' is an intimidating mix of percussion and whirling beat patterns, moving you closer and closer into its chaotic middle.

And lastly, ‘Pandorum' nods to its track title with punching drums and mysterious atmospherics, bringing forward the type of composition which is well known throughout the NickBee discography.

Together all four tracks present an EP which breaks through every rule set up for drum & basses more marketable output. The future world of 174 is ruled by people like NickBee; those unafraid to break the rules and present a different side to the experimental soundscape which is available to every musician. NickBee takes charge of this dominion, which is the primary reason he's so widely known throughout the genre's every corner.

Task Horizon’s hiatus was a mystery felt throughout the world of drum & bass; secluded within the mountains of Switzerland, their scrupulously engineered cuts once littered the sets artists across the genre’s spectrum. And when they decided to close another chapter of their musical careers in 2014, their absence struck a chord. However, three years later the outfit returned already garnering support once again from tastemakers at BBC Radio 1. And for the New Year, they’ve delivered a five track EP of standalone tracks and collaborations for Eatbrain, a label who’ve taken dominion over the underground’s most vital corners.

The foursome are about to unleash their technically orchestrated ‘Overclocking Reality’ package onto the masses. Its title-track rolls out with a deceptive intro, one which begins to swell amongst rolling drums pads and ethereal synths. Up next comes a collaboration with German stalwarts Neonlight, delivering a melting pot of stellar musical aptitudes. ‘Enigma Machine’ is fast paced, unforgiving and oozes with menace, whilst featuring orchestral undertones that nod to the expert musicality of both production groups. Magnetude also jump on board for ‘Immortality Protocol’, another sci-fi inspired record pumping with extra terrestrial samples and metallic percussion. Next up, ‘M-920 Cain’ crashes forward with hollowed kicks and robotic vocal snippets, a dancefloor-lead anthem which is chaotic in its detonation.

And finally, your aural synapses are snared by finishing track ‘Flight Simulator’. Each electronically keyed note and rattling hi-hat leaves you mercilessly submerged, before the record breaks down into growling bass riddims and fluctuating distortion. Task Horizon has resurfaced and with the platform of a formidable imprint. Beside Eatbrain, they’re marked to once again inject their vision into the DNA of drum & bass.
