Hot on the heels of another impressive Ibiza residency across the summer, Jamie Jones’ iconic Paradise invites  Argentinian-born, Barcelona-based Gruuve to join its growing label roster. The rising DJ/producer hasn’t looked  back since his breakthrough ‘Wrong File’ EP on Deeperfect in 2014, catching the attention of some of the  industry’s biggest names, including Marco Carola, Michael Bibi and De La Swing. Now boasting an extensive  catalogue of releases on Glasgow Underground, Lapsus, MUSE and his own imprint MUUV, he steps up for his  most significant release to date and joins the Paradise family with his ‘Without You’ EP, perfectly timed to coincide  with their annual ADE event. 

“I think this EP says a lot about my career path, and I'm so proud that it will be released on Paradise. I say  this because I always produce music from scratch without track references or templates and try to be as  authentic as possible.  

I produced 'Without You' around 2021, just when I started playing with 303 basslines. My main goal was to  create an underground beat with groovy percussive elements and a catchy vocal to give it more  personality. The synth arp on the breaks adds the perfect dark touch! 'Sher Der Der' was made thinking of  Paradise. My objective was to create a more energetic track, so I put a lot of congas in there and again  used a 303 bassline. I also spent some time trying to find a vocal hook to fit this beat, and I think it was a  good choice." - Gruuve.  

‘Without You’ is a slinking house cut loaded with big synth stabs and warping chimes over rhythmic drums for a  wonky, tripped-out track. ‘Sher Der Der’ then strips things back to a thumping house groove with deep male  chants and ethereal chords, switching up the atmosphere to create the perfect dancefloor weapon. 

Gruuve ‘Without You’ EP drops via Paradise Music on 20th October 2023.

MiZi MuZiK dives deep into the futuristic drum and synth work of Spains Patrick McCreanor for catalog no. 8. Across two originals and an acid-tinged reimagination by MANTi & Mira, Pulsar explores an ascetic soundscape of percussion-heavy House and Techno, where sub-driven physicality, drifting alien tonalities, and a visceral instinct for the bleeding edge of club music converge. Pulsar lays out a high-octane hybrid between rolling Big-Room and extraterrestrial tribalism: bone-dry percussive figures cycle over a cavernous rumble, while an eclectic array of inserts—an MC hook evaporating into transmission static, or the jittery contortions of an acid-laced, electric didgeridoo—flash strobing energy arcs across tracks crushing figures of mangled rides and claps. MANTis & Miras rendition of Pulsar retains the originals drum-centric core, but bends it into an acid-tinged, slow-burning dancefloor anthem. Leaning into more organic soundscapes, the duo coax the originals crushing severity into a rolling percussive structure that breathes stunning vitality into Patricks eerie, one-of-a-kind atmospheres. Thorium adds a sense of hypnotism to Patricks darkly oscillating aesthetic. Pitch-bent sirens hover over shadowy atmospheres and erratically cycling percussive impacts, conjuring a dark energy that grows in urgency with every rotation. Across a carpet of booming, relentless subbass, Thorium unfolds a soundtrack to the robot uprising with strange and powerful emotionality at its core. On Pulsar, Patrick McCreanor carves out a space where club futurism and primal rhythmic instinct meld. The result is a xenomorphing two-tracker that channels the strobing, unstable energy of a neutron star.

Adam Beyer’s Drumcode juggernaut attracts more fans and critical plaudits with each passing year. Holding firm on its future facing ethos, techno’s number one label presents a new volume in its acclaimed A-Sides series with 20 prime tracks to signify its 20th anniversary. 

Such is the volume of quality music Adam Beyer receives throughout the course of the year, releasing all of it would be impossible. Enter the blue chip A-Sides series: a chance for the quality-obsessive label head to issue a collection of outstanding tracks that couldn’t fit in their regular EP release schedule. 

With an eye on future talent, as much as the label’s established roster of heavy-hitters, the compilation showcases the full breadth of Drumcode’s multifaceted techno sound, equal parts inspiring and functional. 

Led by the stealth techno funk of ‘Nine of You’, Beyer’s deft collaboration with Mark Reeve, the compilation takes in exciting highlights from big guns such as Alan Fitzpatrick, Dustin Zahn, Bart Skils, Pleasurekraft, Luca Agnelli, Jay Lumen, Kaiserdisco and Gary Beck. 

The rich vein of form displayed by emerging techno talent is similarly given prime position. Rising DJ/producer Boxia makes his Drumcode debut, fresh from a well-received warm up set for the crew at the hugely successful Junction 2 festival in London, while the likes of Enrico Sangiuliano, Juan Sanchez, Ian O’Donovan and Timmo also drop fire, establishing their credentials as some of the most promising talent breaking through the ranks in 2016. 

Reinforcing the global scope of the label, artists such as The Junkies from Toronto and Layton Giordani from New York, prove techno is winning a place in the heart of the new generation of artists coming out of North America.
