The Maple Mountain Sunburst Triolian Orchestra is Canadian composer/multi-instrumentalist Andy McNeill. And guests... wonderful guests. Some are musicians. 
Some are actors. Some are auctioneers, cowboys and philosophers.

The music is a series of cinematic dream-like instrumentals done up in layers of simple patterns and melody. A hybrid of the old and new. A swirling nostalgic haze fed through shiny new filters and pixilated with studio trickery.

Kaleidoscopic and funky. Blissed-out and mad.

There will be mellotrons. There will be dobros, mandolins, trombones, guitars, samplers and mutators, wurlitzer, bass, piano, marxophone, omnichord, synthesizers old and new, and drums: live and looped, human and machine.

There will be voices -- voices recaptured from vinyl and tape. An old cowboy reminiscing about his days as a young lawman in the Wild West of the 1880’s. 
A country auctioneer from an old Smithsonian/Folkways record speed-rapping over a Bruce Cockburn loop. A 1950’s American radio actor reading a passage from The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam.

There will be a very special guest: Isabella Rossellini reciting the words of the late author/visionary Laura Archera Huxley, widow of Aldous Huxley. Ms. Rossellini’s performance was recorded on a beautiful day in New York City in the summer of 2009.

Keri Latimer is a songwriter from Winnipeg, Manitoba. She still fronts the band Nathan, with whom she shares a Juno, and numerous Canadian Folk Music and Western Canadian Music awards, and has spent the last year working on a solo project. Her debut release, Crowsfeet and Greyskull, was primarily recorded in her kitchen. With financial support from the Canada Council for the Arts and Winnipeg Arts Council, she was able to write an album's worth of songs and still be a good mother to her two children. With an independent loan from FACTOR, she was able to set to work during the winter, layering vocals and instrumentation, and gathering audio files from across Canada to throw into the mix. 

The musicians on this album are Barry Mirochnick (drums, Neko Case), Christine Fellows (piano), Neville Quinlan (vocals, NQ Arbuckle), Shaun Brodie (trumpets, Hidden Cameras, Dan Mangan), Lucas Goetz (pedal steel, Deep Dark Woods), Damon Mitchell (guitar, Nathan, New Meanies), Devin Latimer (bass, Nathan), Jess Reimer (vocals), Michael P. Falk (guitar, Les Jupes), Richardo Lopez Aquilar (bass, vocals, Old Folks Home), Keith McLeod (mandolin, guitar, Special Fancy, Ether City), and the Hesed String Quartet. The songs were mixed in Massachusetts by David Chalfant and mastered in Toronto by Noah Mintz at Lacquer Channel Mastering.

Ask the hundreds of Winnipeggers who turn out for his tongue and cheek theme gigs, like the perennially sold out JP HOE HOE HOE Holiday Show.

Music legend Seymour Stein thinks JP would be huge in Southeast Asia, and was bang on the money when JP played 2 festivals in Australia last October. A Western Canadian Music Awards jury thought his full-length debut, The Dear John Letters, was one of the top pop recordings and songwriting efforts of 2008. This is a songwriter who
gets people talking.

They talk, for instance, about his sound. It’s hard to pin down. The melodies are always fluid, the lyrics clear-eyed. And of course, there’s always JP’s voice, a classic instrument that rasps with weight beyond his years.

The beginning of 2012 will see JP release his fifth effort ‘Mannequin’, “tight, focused & confident” are the words JP uses to describe the album completed this past September.

What happens next? More music. More albums. More cross country tours, more dates in cities like Melbourne, New York, Austin and Los Angeles, where he’s wooed crowds before. More sizzling shows with his deft backing band, the Truly Richards. This artist continues to reach new heights.
